favourite put down at a gig?

Probably the Birmingham 86 encore opening. I'll post an MP3 of it this evening, but it was a classic Barneyism !

None will ever beat MES's silencing of a goth at Sheffield in 1981 when he drew the entire audience's attention to "Siouxsie out of the Banshees" at the front of the gig. That'll teach her to trap off too much during a Fall gig !

Dont know about favourite put down at a gig, but me favourite putdown bandmate on bandmate.

Journalist : Is Ringo the best drummer in the world ?

Lennon : He aint even the best drummer in the Beatles.

Barney at the Irvine 89 gig.

"If you don't get into this, we won't either."

Fave non NO put down was by Henry Rollins at a spoken word gig last month in Des Moines. Person in front row was talking on a cell phone and he stopped and looked at her and said that he would wait until she was done but would not guarantee the patience of the crowd.

I think the back-stage TOTP interview in 1989 (for Round & Round),is up there with the best of them. "Will not make videos of Red Rocks","Couldnt carry the flag" Classics.

"Marching music" Budvar;) Loved the bit about Mission Fans masel. Barney - Reading 89...."This one's for all you Mission fans, I've seen you all dressed in black, picking yer fookin noses"

Best put down outwith a gig goes to the man we'll be celebrating on Sunday:beer:

Barney "So what are we into then Rob.....our manager?" Rob "Yer into GAY DISCO"

Doesn't he say summat scathing at the Woolwich Coronet gig: along the lines of "oh, yeah, very witty, very witty [to obnoxious punter]. Perhaps you could try being funny rather than just being pissed-up twats".

Continually referring to the fans as "punters" at the Central London Poly gig just drips with contempt: has any other band in history been so openly contemptuous of the people that effectively pay their wages? I do think they're starting to warm to us now, though. Only just, mind....

there was a quip about the size of Arthur Baker's penis at the Mountain View show near San Fran for AreaOne...in fact, Bernard's favorite subject between songs has got to be his (or someone else's) penis.

Before (or after, haven't seen it in a while) Thieves Like Us in Minneapolis in '83: "If you don't like this, you must be Americans".

I remember that. Was he pointing out Baker, or someone who looked like Baker?

he was pointing out Baker...

said something like...'he looks a bit like Rasputin...and he's got a big penis, just like me'

Along with the weary "change with the times mate, change with the times".

Best evil banter ever: Morrissey reacting to bouncer's heavy handed treatment of fragile fans by pointing out to the already irritated crowd how much they outnumber the security by (Irvine Meadows 86). The normally quiet Johnny Marr had already called the security "Neanderthal fookin' idiots" by this point.

the one that sums new order up is barney lambasting the crowd mid gig ,just as they are about to launch into "weirdo". "fuckin shutup will ya,were trying to tune up"?

Darien Lakes Amusement Park 1987 "It's not called 'Plantaion' dickhead it's 'Temptation'".

Later...

"It's not 'Tempation' goatcheese (?) it's 'Plantation'".
