How did you spend 18 May....

Co-incidentally my copy of 33 1/3 Unknown Pleasures by Chris Ott arrived yesterday - it is available on Amazon despite neworderonline.com saying it is released July 1. It is a wonderful little book. I sat down and read the whole thing today.

It is the first book which actually looks at the music and the lyrics of Joy Division rather than a rehash of who said what to whom, when and why althought it has a bit of that as well.

Ott writes amazingly well - he has a few sentences which are worth copying onto toilet walls - yes, that good! I especially liked: "While his band mates and producers heard drama, potent lyricism and mounting vocal talent, the person closest to Ian Curtis heard the actual words."

What better way to remember Ian than to read a bit about his talents and weaknesses, drag out a bit of vinyl and listen to the music - maybe even get my tired old bones to dance for a brief second.

Rest in Peace Ian - I am only just starting to know you.

Being such a hot day for a change,i threw a sicky from work & went to Chester for a look round the shops. Went into HMV and flicked through the NO/JD stuff (its a bad habit i know),when to my suprise i found the following items:

1. 5 disc Retro (£34.99,left it cos i already have it).
2. Heart and Soul (29.99,already got this too!).
3. Touching from a Distance (£3.99-Bargain never found this before).
4. Bizarre Love Triangle CD (£8.99,sealed with a sticker so i bought this too).

So i managed to find Ians book today of all days,very strange. PS,if anyones interested they have loads of copies of the book for the above price.

Oh, well, anyway...earlier today, I slapped on H&S disc two and listened to a few tunes. I'm thinking of popping HATYM into the VCR later on this evening (too tired to do so last night, after midnight)

I went and saw the movie Troy.

I suppose in a way it relates to Ian Curtis as everyone in the movie died because they wanted to be remembered just as he did.

Anyways, the movie was good, but not all that great.

I was sorta interested in seeing that, because I really liked the Iliad when I read it a couple years back, but have heard it's not so good

I spent it doing my f'ing Java assignment I haven't been able to listen to any music all day. I've also bought a nice new digital camera.

I didnt sleep last night, spend the majority of the day on a bus from belfast to manchester, with a two hour break on a ferry. Read a full text book on the bus, and listened to closer and permananent all day. paid tribute by wearing LWTUA t-shirt, as i do on this day everyday.

Still May 18th for another 7 and a half hours here. Worked today, gotta get up at 3 am tomorrow, so I won't be doing anything tonight. Thought about where I was 24 years ago, mostly watching the ash fall out of the sky from Mt. St. Helens (thank God I didn't live in Yakima or Wenatchee at the time); didn't hear about Ian's death until a couple of weeks had passed, as their was a strike for the union of the NME or something like that at the time. Ceremony will be played a bit later on, at wall shaking volumes, I assure you.

Listening to some early New Order gigs (late 1980-early 1981). You can still feel that inexplicable sense of loss and misguided direction.

Will play up Ajanta Theatre April 19, 1980 show later to honor the gone but not forgoten Mr. Curtis

Ian, I put my trust in you

....nah, i didn't do any of that, i went to work all day like normal, and i know i'm worthless but i don't care, no point in moping. maybe i'll listen to Closer tonite.
