Reading or Finsbury DVD

Reading, cos it's a triumph and one of their best concerts ever... and of course there's that wonderful 1981 gig too... Finsbury Park is alright, but a bit average by New Order's highest standards...
Against the grain ill say 5 11. But if all the concert vids were released id have to say Academy wins hands down.
3 16 because you get Gillian and the 1981 gig.
5 11 because Crystal hits like a bomb and Barney drops the F word alot.
Both of them are magic - and both concerts were a great craic. If yer talking musically, Reading 98 was a lot better than Finsburgh. Shame it misses out confusion though
And as has already been mentioned Tavaras is a cracking bonus, so I'd plump fer that.
Why have they cut Love Will Tear Us Apart out on the Reading DVD as I understand they did play it at Reading.
I found Barney's voice a little bit too underpowering in the Finbury Park gig, I am not sure if it was to with the sound setup, last sunday when he sang Bizzare Love Traingle his voice sounded fine.
Fuck me - I was a bit pissed at Reading...totally forgot LWTUA, then again, with my memory I am not surprised!

Reading: taras, paradise, isolation, heart&soul, tbthog but finsbury is pretty good too (sound quality for one). Why choose if you can get hold of both DVD's.

316 is the better as its tighter more professionally shot imho.
511 close second, even though for a few freeze frames i can be seen down the front!!
I like 511 as my family bought it as a present for me the Xmas it came out - also it's got DTS sound on it which sounds cool coming out the 5.1 speakers! Great version of She's lost control, too. I then bought 316 on the strength of this, and having Tara's is a bonus, but I prefer 511 overall.
A couple of days ago I bought 511, finally. Well now I can say that I prefer 316. Obviously Bernard Sumner is enjoying the show but on the other hand he keeps distorting the songs more than ever, we all know how :)

From a non-English, but next door nieghbour, NOOLer, I love WIM. 
Definitely think it's the best football related song ever. The 7" vinyl is one of the most treasured in my collection. A couple of years back Joe Elliot, on an Irish music quiz show was waxing lyrical about Irish world cup songs, and made a big deal about how, as far as he's concerned, WIM is THE worst football song ever. I'd call him every kind of twat under the sun, but he sings with Def Leppard. Nuff said. And to be honest, 99.99% of Irish world cup songs were crap.
Oh, and couldn't really choose between Reading & Finsbury DVDs. Should one have to? Maybe Finsbury cos Reading didn't have John Barnes!!! 
Uhm...but isn't our man El Jarvo got a bit of a feature spot on the Finsbury DVD??? Surely that should be worth something!!!

I have both DVDs. One as class as the other. Nice one!
The only thing wrong with 5 11 is Gillian's absense. I like Dawn Zee being there. Crystal hits hard. Its a good gig for the GR tour. Not like Barcelona 1984 was filmed and available on dvd or RFH 1984. But as Bernard says "I think the new stuff is pretty good."
I am happy that both are available. Now if they would release the Tokyo 85 gig, Academy and Apollo gigs on dvd I'd be grateful.

Pumped Full of Drugs is available on DVD from Japan. If you can't play discs from that region, stick with VHS. There's nothing extra on the DVD>

They never actually performed HTS - it was a mime! Lazy bastards claimed jet lag as they were just back from Germany if memory serves correctly. Such A Good Thing and Someone Like You weren't dropped - they've never been played live. And as fer Barney's whooping - people make far too much out of it, it's a sign he's enjoying himself.....it's his dancing you should be worried about
I also enjoyed Element 115's question about where Jarvo's spot is.....I had several cracking answers to that one, but Ricardo has gone and spoiled it by putting up a still. Cheers Ricardo

Indeed, two Jarvos for the price of one.
Whilst they did mime on TOTP, I think they actually have to re-record said track for use on the show though, don't they? As they're not allowed to simply play an edit of the record or whatever because of some copyrighting issue. The jetlag thing was for Crystal though, Shug - they'd just flown back from the US.
Foowk - I had a feeling it was Crystal.... but ye's are all aware of my memory! HTS wasnae re-recorded though - it's definitely the Radio Edit.....if memory serves me correctly this time

I think they have to re-record, whether it sounds the same, or whatever. Don't think it was the radio edit though cos they missed out an entire verse on TOTP, didn't they, which is still in place on the radio edit.

Yeah Taras Shevchenko is the New York show from 1981,which has one of the best group/audience interactions ever. Excellent take on Temptation too.

Got them both. The Trio Channel aired the Finsbury gig here in the states, but only showed like 5 songs from the DVD (Damned commercials). Quite a tease really, so I had to check the whole thing out.
316 is an interesting contrast: how bloody young, and, well, intense, they are at Taras, compared to.., well slightly, maturer, shall we say, at Reading. They're a world apart, and it was brave of them to put them out as one package. Talking of 'World's'; WIM is a cracking track - and Keith Allen is caught in splendidly fiendish form at Reading. 'Fraid sound quality rules though, and 511's got that stomping DTS thang.
