Sunrise

I think Sunrise is a brillaint New Order song. I just discovered it recently, and vocally, and lyrically, its one of Bernards finest moments. The whole song is riveting.

Anyone else like it?

Do you think the lyrics are about Barneys feelings on God?

I've always understood it to be about a relationship between father and son.

My girlfriend's favorite New Order song and one of my fav's too. It's a song of epic proportions. The production makes it sound like it has a hundred synths on it. One of their finest moments.

i remember one bittersweet sunday morning in summer 1985 after i had split up with a girlfriend playing Sunrise and as the song built towards the final part which Bernard does a bit when he kind of almost just talks some lyrics and then the synths come in it started to pour with rain outside my bedroom window and it was just the best bit of music ever.Awesome.

Tour De France Soundtracks has really brilliant stuff on it yeah.I really didnt think they would ever do an albun again.Saw them at Brixton Academy in March and have just read Wolfgang Flurs book "Kraftwerk: I Was A Robot" which is superb although he paints his former band mates Ralf and Florian in a very bad light.They tried to stop the book and stuff.

I think Sunrise is one of the band's best songs. Definitely one of the heavier "rock," not like Rock the Shack or any mediocre crap like that though. Low Life wouldn't be the same without it...though it would've been helped by the exclusion of Face Up.

Its on Low-Life,which is their best album in my opinion,everything they did round that 1984/1985 period is superb.

The Sessions version isn't too bad. It just isn't what I expect from NO.

I don't often post, but Sunrise is a particular favourite of mine especially played live. I remember them playing it back in 1986 - Oxford Apollo I think, I was convinced that my ears were going to start to bleed, such a fabulous cacophany (in the nicest possible sense) of noise - brilliant !

Sunrise is one of my fave NO tunes & probably one reason why I love Primitive Notion so much too.

Thanks to a mutual friend, I recently picked up the instrumental of Sunrise too.

Perfect driving music.

I stole my parent's sports car and drove it to a friend's house one night back in 85. When he got in I cranked that song off first. Honestly, you can hear the sound of the rocket and how they clung onto it in this tune. Powerful. I do not think they have ever matched it IMHO.

I think it's less about the writing and more about the INTENSITY. A new Sunrise could sound like Rock the Shack 2, especially since Barney has mothballed his trademark speed-crazed playing style. If it could be as fast and raw as New Order was in 84-85, then I'd gladly sign up.

I know what you mean. When I first heard Technique, I loved most of the synth tracks but wished Guilty Partner had some of the power that Sunrise possesses. That's the only thing Technique lacks, intensity.

However, taking into account the lyrical theme of Guilty Partner, the music is very complementary. Sort of passive/aggressive.
