TPK Intro

Absurd as this sounds, I wise the TPK had 2 openings, because both of them sound so good. The Substance build-up which climaxes with the speedy drum machine bit and the Low Life one with the sound coming out of one of the speakers then the other (hard to explain, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about). Which one do you like more?

The version on Substance/12" is far better,the album mix is an edit-the begining you describe is the synth going left channel,right channel,left channel,right channel. Pretty sure that is somewhere in the long version (even if its hidden in the layers.

The Substance version is the original. It's the same as when they play it live from the RFH 84 debut to the Reading 93 farewell. The Low-Life intro I think is also the Kiss of Death version. But I am always disapponted when I hear it because the Low-Life is the worst edit of all time. Like sex without an orgasim.

Substance version get the thumbs up here. Big time.

The full original version on 12" is the best.Not the shortened Substance version or the even shorter Low Life mix.And how about the rare Benelux one which starts straight with the speaker to speaker bit so ommiting the percussioney sounds at the start.

No, it's not: they dropped the first part of the intro in 1993.

Yeah but it still goes into the 2nd part of the original, ie the dmx and voyetra8 bit.

The original gets my vote every time, the whole track is just superb and is certainly the most impressive thing ever done one some cheese-ridden 80's drum box. Takes a drummer to program a drum machine ( oddly it enough I read somewhere that it takes a genius to program a tb303, if u understand that comment, you'll get what I mean)

let's talk about the end. any version that fails to conclude with hooky's kick-ass bass should crawl under a rug. i always add it in my head whenever the song fades out, to compensate for the loss.

Was I wrong when I heard in '85 they performed Kiss of Death? And if so, would anyone kinda direct me to a copy of this?

Steve said something about that in the Retro booklet. Instead they sampled a pinball machine version, but it sounds like a digital pig being castrated instead! (Fitting, seeing as the Subculture 12" mix immediately follows it on Substance)

But to stay on topic, I prefer the Substance version, but I don't half mind the '93 intro

I just can't stand hearing that stereo effect and dreading that 4 something minute mark where it abruptly fades out

I like the fact that TPK was never renixed to death.
