IS THE WORLD WAITING FOR THE NEW ALBUM?

Just some rambling thoughts.

Is the world getting tired numetal, grunge, rapcrap, boybands, Brittney (and clones). I hope so. I know I am. If the new album is more uppy than Get Ready, then indeed New Order may have one last shot at true commercial success and world domination.

They haven't been courting the rest of the world too well. Imagine if they got the huge amount of attention that the new Cure album is getting. I suppose if they were still called Joy Division they'd have a better chance at record sales with all the little hipster bands name-checking the JD--except that the new album sure wouldn't be "uppy" (and who knows if they would've made all the music that they have as New Order)! Nevermind...now I'm rambling incoherently. :nonono:

i totally think new order can overtake britney or blink 451 in record sales.

with all these new post punk bands floating around at the moment getting and getting a lot of attention id say the world is waiting for the real thing for sure the next NO and CURE album are going to do very well if released in the next six months in order to cash in on the current fad

The radio station Edge 102.1 is one of the top most listened to stations in the world. It has played plenty of New Order classics lately (which means a lot since its mostly a new rock station) and the fact that they are working on a new album is often mentioned with the song. Although, I only heard them play Crystal twice. Usually its Blue Monday (single version at least), Bizarre Love Triangle, The Perfect Kiss, or sometimes whoever is doing the Saturday night DJ show will mix in some other songs. They play Joy Division too once in a while.

Hopefully, this new album will get better radioplay with the plugs it has been getting. I do know that if it is good, one DJ in particular ( Dave Bookman "Booky") will likely play it. :)

Me take the piss. Never, well perhaps sometimes.

But, serisously, some of you may not remember there was a time when New Order enjoyed true commercial success. I'll mention BLT, True Faith, Substance, Technique, World in Motion and even to some degree Republic.

All I'm saying is perhaps/hopefully the time is right again, especially with so much crap music being out there.

They won't in any way 'cash in' - they're not organised enough, even on a major label.

It'll probably end up being a sort of 'non-release' that ends up selling loads in the first few weeks, but gets absolutely nowhere, then ends up in the bargain bins, just like Republic and get ready' - both of which you can pick up for less than a fiver here... for once, even cheaper than in the US

Shame really, as whatever New Order release, it's bound to be better than any of the crap in the Billboard or the UK 'Top 40'

Perhaps if The Killers wasn't an actual band now (unfortunately, given their trendy retro posturing), New Order really could release the new album under their name with press releases saying that they are a bunch of bored twenty-somethings. People are probably just scared off by their age--not young enough for MTV, not old enough for VH1, as I recall hearing in regard to a certain band whose name begins with "The C" and ends with "Ure" (though that seems to have changed now). Anyway, if New Order weren't a bunch of old duffers with a bunch of supposedly disposable "synthpop" behind them, Get Ready could have been a smash hit for a debut album.

my art group is doing an art sound exhibity concerty thing later on in the year there...

yes, the edge plays lots of good stuff (depeche mode, the cure, new order, joy division), but also alot of crap (nickleback), they are big on postpunk and alternative, and will play stuff by unsigned bands even on thursday nights...

How about XFM in Ottawa ?

Would you consider that a good radio station ?

They are the only station that plays Modest Mouse, Franz Ferdinand, Feist, Thornley, and many other exellent groups. They are accused of being top 40ish but much of the time they are the ones making sure the top 40 rocks.

I still maintain that if New Order has a killer single, Booky will play it and hopefully get it on the playlist like he does with a # of bands.

As for XFM I haven't heard enough of it to fairly judge. I just know that the edge is among top 5 most listened to stations in the world. College stations have their moments too but that is another story.

But can they overtake THE CURE ? No - at least in the US, they can't. Unless, they would actually tour, then they might have a fighting chance.

I thought the band really liked NYC in the early 80s, but I guess that's what being under the influence 24/7 does for you.
