Why Blue Monday?

So Robert Smith could say he didn't care if Monday's blue on Friday I'm In Love???
I'm sure that there was a slight bit of collusion on this one!!!
Of course, I also think that the CIA killed JFK, and that no man has ever really set foot on the moon!!!
Just had an e-mail off of Julio...text follows below...now if this is true, I'm rather impressed, I never bothered to find out what day it was when Ian hung himself....
Why is Blue Monday called Blue Monday??
I know I know I know !!!!
Ian died on Sunday !
They had to start a new journey to their lives on a blue Monday : )
'A' for you wise Julio !!!!!!!!!
Sunday, May 18th, 1980? Same day as Mt. St. Helens blew up. That's how I remember it.
Isn't Blue Monday also some sort of reference to drinking--like the first day back to work after a long "Irish" weekend? Maybe I'm thinking of something else....
the Monday before Lent, spent in dissipation, which is said to give everything a blue tinge...hence blue means tipsy...
ehm...I guess that's a stretch there...

Because "Red Tuesday" sounded shite.
Never heard the phrase "Monday Morning Blues"? first day back to work after the weekend is always crap. Fook all to do with a record title though! Just a typical NO title.

Or from Office Space,
"Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays" ![]()
Maybe they could have called it Ship In The Harbour as that`s in the lyrics but that would be too easy /obvious/un New Order/LAZY/WHATEVER
The line, "I walked down to the beach," was that referring to the club The Beach or a place with sand adjacent to a large body of water?
Whats this line about
"If it wasn't for your big penis I would be a heavenly person to do":p
