AIIWIW Demo? — Forum Archive

Digging through all of my neworder cd's at the weekend I discovered a CD with a white cover simply saying AIIWIW DEMO not for resale.

I have no idea who sent me this, the writing is in blue pen. Has anyone heard of this? On listening to it - it sounds more like a rehearsal tape converted over.

They didn't "do" many demo's, I can only think of Elegia and Let's Go off hand.

Our computer system here foowked up big time and I've lost quite a few mails. I know I had requests from a few Onliners - so no extracting of the urine please.

Also while I am about, has anyone got a good quality version of Glasgow Barra's 6-2-85 and Reading 98 Full show or DVD Rip?

I have sorted out all of me live CD's and put them in order, quite an impressive collection it is now. Cheers to everyone who has helped me out over the last 3 or 4 years. I have also found a few cracking interviews - and I also found the time to listen to some live gigs. Glasgow 86 has a couple of cracking Barney lines - slagging down Edinburgh to Glasgow cos they hurt his feelings the night before, one of these days I will get all the best banter quotes and put them on here

Another request, if anyone has any of my original bootlegs - can you send them back asap. Cheers :beer:

This As It Is demo is quite good, and stems from May 85 (we can tell this because of the way the song sounds the same as the live versions around that time towards the end, rather than the December 85 versions which were nearer the end result). I think there may be two versions rather than just the one, sure I have them one after another on the same tape somewhere. They sound home-produced rather than a proper demo, as if they were knocked together in their rehearsal rooms.

I also found the time to listen to some live gigs. Glasgow 86 has a couple of cracking Barney lines - slagging down Edinburgh to Glasgow cos they hurt his feelings the night before, one of these days I will get all the best banter quotes and put them on here

Ha ha! I was at that Edinburgh gig, and the audience were sh4te - remember Barney slagging us off no end, with some mild (genteel) heckling. Said something about the Blues Brothers too, i remember. The weedgies would have loved his derogatory comments about the Edinburgers no doubt, tho i did not manage through to the Glasgow gig.

Yeah - I agree it sounds like the rehearsal room tapes that I have. Although they eminate from 82 and 84 if memory serves me correctly for once.

Anyone know how this wee gem got into circulation? Or is that a silly question :evil4:

:clap: You don't happen to have that gig on CD do ye;) I havnae got that one - I think it was September 86 - can you remember the venue? I would love to hear it so I can play both gigs back to back. I have the 85 Barra's gig on tape - and it's a classic as well, the crowd at both these Glasgow gigs seem WELL into it. Just wish I was old enough to have experienced these first hand, unfortunately I was only a wean of 10 or 11!

I have tapes of both the Edinburgh & Glasgow gigs - consecutive nights, I believe, and it's impossible to overstate just how different the two shows are. Edinbugh a set of most new stuff of "Brotherhood" which it seems the locals were less than impressed with; at Glasgow, however, it's full-on greatest hits with a crowd that sound damn near delirious with joy.

However, I do remember someone on here saying once that there was always several coachloads of die-hards who would always do both Edin./Glas. shows, thus pissing soemwhat on Bernard's comments about the difference between audiences in the two cities....

He just didn't like Edinburgh, has made comments about the audience every year they've played there. Seems to start in 83 when Confusion was rolled out, and he complained bitterly about the sound at the Caley Palais in 85. Best of all these Scots dates was Dundee, on my 20th birthday. Short but sweet set.

Still, funny as fuck when Barney's dishing out the banter though.

While we're on bootlegs - I also flicked through the Sheffield Roxy 87, Hooky gives the "This one's for someone who couldn't be here.... cos she's dead" Who was it that died? Cos on the Finsbury gig 2 days earlier Barney says the same thing - from what I can make out at the start of my finsbury bootleg it's "This one's for (Elleanor Peter?? Helena Peter?? Helen and Peter??) who couldn't make it tonight, cos she's dead....no that's not a joke and it's not funny" With Barney's voice at the best of times it's a pain in the arse to make out what he's saying :lol: I should also mention these two are absolute faves from me collection an all
