hi you nutters. i've been noticing quite a few of the old NO ikon vids, taras etc on ebay this last week in the betamax format. got out bid on a few too! i didnt even know that they existed in betamax!:jawdrop: they look better than the vhs ones too, instead of having crappy plastic boxes the beta ones are in a kind of cigarrette box with flip top lid. just when i though i was getting near to finally completing my collection these buggers turn up! any of you guys out there got the betamax vids? what other vids are available in the beta format? these are going to buggers to locate in the future, the price of them will shoot thru the roof! still,i suppose i'll try and get them just to complete my collection. regards

You can always check out the New Order Discography... From the top of my head (?!?!), these are the BETA I know of:

TBTHOG (US) BM88 (US) A Factory Complication (BL, UK) A Factory Video (US, UK Fact 56 and Ikon 3) A Factory Outing (US, UK Fact 71b and Ikon 5) Taras (US, UK Fact 77 and Ikon 4) Shorts (US, UK Fact 137 and Ikon 12) PFD (US, UK Fact 177 and Ikon 17)

Let me know if I missed some.

I've always preferred the quality of Beta to that of VHS, it's just that the American public decided in their "wisdom" that they only wanted to deal with one format, even though everybody knew that one got a better quality picture from the Beta; Sony apparently thought that the US would have two formats, and didn't push Beta as much as JVC, I think, did for VHS.

At any rate, I bought Here Are The Young Men, Factory Outing, Factory Video, and Taras on the NTSC Beta format, which there are probably fewer copies of,and I do prefer the flip to packaging to the cardboard sleeve by a mile. I also have The Fall's tape of Perverted By Language, another Ikon release, though I missed out on the Birthday Party one.

Some may sell their tapes, but I never will. Here'

one of my earliest memories is my old man bring home a beta, setting it up, taping stuff off the telly, and then watching ET.

VHS versions originally came in the cigarette box format.

I've got HATYM and TARAS on Betamax - but not in the flip top box.

I remember ordering them from Virgin (£20 each, I think!) when we first got our video recorder - bloody great big chunky clunky toploader thing it was!

It didn't have a remote control either so you had to get down on your hands and knees to FFWD/RWD/etc.

Those were the days...!!!

Now of course the big question is how is 'Betamax' pronounced? Is it 'Beeta-max' or 'Bayta-max'?

Should get the cross-atlantic arguments flowing again ;)

Does anybobody remember Vid2o 2000. My uncle got one of those when they first came out must be almost 25 years ago. He's still got it. With Video you could record both sides of the tape.

Does anything play Betamax anymore? Has it has the same fate as laserdisc?

BETAMAX is still used by most television stations I think I think its more of a PROFESSIONAL thing as it is the better quality out of the two

I'm far too young to remember Betamax of course:D But from what I remember John had Tavaras and PFD originals, these were my earliest memories of seeing NO on screen, he also had Rock Around The Clock, Whistle Test and Tube taped onto a blank Betamax video, but through obsessive watching the quality quickly detereorated. Which is why so many of my early compilation videos have the SNOW effect that Rocket Baldy likes to remind us all about:lol: I think ALL the original JD/NO Betamax vids are listed in the sites mentioned above I can't think of anymore.
