Electronic's WARNING SIGN: Good or Not ?

i found this Late At Night single here in Buenos Aires. both parts! although i could only buy one for being short of money. and it´s the one that has Warning Sign. absolutely great track, as most of the TT era. great acoustic guitar, intimate vocals and good lyrics. the groove reminds me of the rolling stones, don´t know why. if you don´t remember it you can hear my live acoustic version on the Cover Archives of this site.

Does these lyrics have any meaning to you ?

Warning Sign is an ace track.. Out of all the tracks from the Twisted Tenderness period I almost always give that one a listen, along with the original "Ice-T" sample'd version of Make It Happen (on the Promo CD), and the monster Prodigal Son. While I agree the song may not have "fitted in" on TT for "flow" reasons, it's got a great melodic acoustic guitar line and an addictive chorus, I attribute the lyrics towards a dead relationship which I (and I'm sure many people) can identify with. I have a great deal of promo CDs/vinyl from that period, including the withdrawn "Late At Night" 12" + promo + CD1 & CD2. I actually blagged CD2 out of Parlophone as a free promo :P I said I was researching news for my New Order-related (Monaco) website :D hehe

I've noticed this really closed-mindedness among a great deal of New Order fans (not just in this thread) relating to side-project activities. It's just pathetic in my mind, I really love the fact New Order branched out and did something different and I think they themselves would wholeheartedly agree. I would rather have Monaco "Music for pleasure", or the debut Electronic album in place of a New Order album full of Shellshocks, or State of the Nations. Some fans cannot deal with the fact their beloved heroes did something apart from each other and so proceed to slag it regardless. All the side-projects, even Revenge, had pretty good tunes certainly the equal of New Order in terms of quality when you look at NO's worser offerings (I.e. Shellshock, State of the nation, Brotherhood, Movement, etc.)

Just because our beloved New Order members play together does not necessarily always mean great music... Slow Jam and Rock The Shack being recent examples. I would rather listen to the bsides of the side projects (Ultra, Imitation of life, WARNING SIGN) compared to those two so I guess it's horses for courses eh?

As for such grand sweeping statements as "Barney got all his crap writing out of his system with Electronic", they are both inaccurate and retarded. Opinion aside, at least two Electronic albums, and one Monaco album achieved critical acclaim with the music press and that is no mean feat for a "New Order side project". So those people can sit there with their smug opinions but it won't stop other folk from getting some good tunes out of the side project records. There are shitloads of side project tracks I'd rather listen to instead of New Order ones and I'm sure I'm not alone. This does not mean I don't consider New Order the best at what they do, but the side-projects show a different side to each member and I think all their stuff (bar certain Revenge records) was worth it.

So f*ck you basically. :)
