An unbeaten creative streak?

I would say they were most creative, in melodies and lyrics between 1984-1986

Reason?

2 full albums recorded in the space of 2 years The first album coming straight off the back of Blue Monday the previous year. Perfect Kiss,BLT,Sunrise and True Faith/7 recorded in that time.

Anyone care to argue??

Recording one album cant be described as a "streak" a run of 2 albums surely displays more consistancy?

Technique is so good i counted it twice :)

Isnt the fact its such a short album perhaps indicating that their creative streak was running out of petrol?

No, they had to stop there otherwise they might have spoiled it.

84-85 was their most prolific period I'd say, fourteen new songs :

don't forget skullcrusher :D I would argue that 80-82 would be a more fertile period vis-avis creativity since that was when they radically transformed their sound, but, yes, the 84-86 was probably the most fertile as far as productivity goes. Probably because they'd honed their sound and were just able to produce songs.

My problem is that a lot of those songs are bog-standard guitar-rock crap... For creativity their most creative era must be between 1983-1985, although I prefer the Technique era.

Good point. Not much need for quality control really either, only half a dozen duffers slipped through.

1982-1984,all those singles and they still managed to come up with PCL.

yep, creatively it ended in late 84 early 85. Sure there are some kick ass singles--True Faith ect and granted technique is the best sounding and produced album but nothing as groundbreaking as EGG thru TPK.

I noticed that the bootlegs I have been collecting that anything after 1985 is disappointing IMHO. The magic seems missing.

Hang on a minute - surely As You Said is an experiment, rather than a "song". And they must have done similar things in later years. If you're going to count that, we've got to count unfinished pieces/experiments from later years.

That all said, I essentially agree with you. 38 (or 37) ace songs in two years...
