I noticed that the stated time on my cassette and CD show as 6:04, yet every discography I've checked has Shell-Shock listed at a time of 6:40. Is there another PIP version I'm not aware of or is this an error? Thanks!

Well, the version you talk about (with the extra verse) is only available on CD on the Pretty In Pink OST,so i guess whatever running time your CD says is right!

It could be a simple typo (in the Discography). The best way to get the right info is to simply time the track (or check your CD player...). I haven't done it myself yet as my music-collection is a little bit disorganized at the moment... :)
And yes Nick, the Discography has been wrong before. Not way wrong, just wrong :D

The original 12" of Shellshock (the extended mix, effectively) is 9:44, this 12" mix was clipped down to 6:28 for the Substance version. Both mixes are different to the Pretty in Pink version, which I suspect is the original at 6:04. There are noticable differences after the second (longer) chorus: an extra verse, guitar solo and faded ending. I like the Substance version best. My favourite New Order song... Despite what people often say on here about it.

Indeed, Shellshock is one of my favorite NO songs, in any remix. Too bad few people really appreciate it.

I agree, Shellshock is still one of my favorite tracks, though it does sound a little dated now compared to other NO songs. I am a little biased though since Shellshock was the song that exposed me to, and got me hooked on New Order back in 86. I for one appreciate it.
I've got a good soundcheck version, must have been a doddle to do live because the song basically plays itself. Gillian presses one button and that's it, save for a few vocals and a tiny bit of guitar from Mr Sumner...

What about the version on Retro? AFAICT, the PiP version is a fade-out of the 6:28 Retro version. Or am I way off here?

The version on Retro is the same edit of the 12" that appears on Substance. The version on the Pretty in Pink is the original version.

At least she's doing something, unlike Jon Cryer and Andrew "Weekend at Bernie's" McCarthy.
