Anyhow, nope, I've never seen them. Could be a myriad of reasons ranging from the fact that as far as I know, they've never played Sacramento and I didn't hear about the Bay Area shows until it was too late (or I had no money), to the fact that I didn't get into them in around 86/87, so I missed out on earlier tours.

So I'm patiently waiting for them to brave another US tour so I can see them, assuming it's when I'm on vacation or on a weekend because it will involve travel.

My reasons for not having seen them live are:

1. I was only born in 1981;
2. I didn't get into them until four years ago;
3. They've not come to Belfast recently;
4. Being a skint student, I can't afford to travel to England - or even further away - to see them.

I don't wanna talk about this.

I've never seen NewOrder because I'm too mean to buy concert tickets, & if I did feel like splashing out, I couldn't be arsed to organise transport to the venue.

Besides, I wouldn't want to see the shambles passing itself off as NewOrder now anyway, with Phil Cuntingham & that old bag of a backing singer, not to mention Barney looking more of a knob-end with that embarrasing dad-dancing & whooping he does. I think I'd rather see Busted or Britney Spears. Maybe I will one day... :)

I have to admit I prefered the more 'serious' New Order of the late 80s/early 90s. I can't stand Barney jumping around like a twat making stupid noises every few seconds. I also don't like the way that even their most 'techno-ish' tunes are now really rocked up live. It's all guitars and virtually no keyboards

I saw NewOrder at the Palais Theatre in Melbourne on 25th November 1982, but i can't remenber a thing about it, except that the funny looking guy with the beard with the bass was all i could here. Does that count?

Lucky you - I have the video and couldn't see them at all. I can hear them though You have a video of this gig? i wonder if you can see me in it. I'm up the back, lying on the floor puking my guts out. I saw them two days later at the Seaview Ballroom (also known as the Crystal Ballroom; it's now an up market art gallery with yuppie apartments) and i really enjoyed that gig. Why? because i didn't smoke pot and i didn't drink myself into a coma. My "mates" however, decided to partake in the same drugs as the first gig and ended up totally smashed, pissing and puking everywhere, but that gig really introduced me to modern music, the sounds i heard that night were amazing. Hooky's bass is still ringing in my ears some 22 years later and i still remember the teenage crush i had on Gillian (i was 14 at the time).

I have heared New Order live but I had to gate crash Move 2002 because none of my mates were into it at the time so I didn't want to buy tickets for just me.

Due to ill timing I have never really had the chance to see them live yet, I have met and had conversations with Hooky and Stephen Morris though and seen Barny perform with the Doves and Hooky with ACR. Its one of the perks of living in Manchester.

I used to think I'd seen them 100 times. Then I realised that looking through both eyes didn't count as seeing them twice, however blurred the vision became at the bottom of the pint, so it is only 52 appearances on two continents and in three countries. Some good ones, some bad ones, some ugly ones. And that's just the crowd. Nothing on record can match the live New Order experience.

Playing them live is totally different - playing anything live is a different experience to watching someone else play. It wouldn't matter whether we played JD/NO, other covers or my own stuff, it would still be a different vibe.

Seeing New Order live just makes you realise how much work has had to go into creating that sound, there is always so much going on. People take it for granted that they just turn up and play, so much preparation has had to go into everything, particularly the sequenced songs that need every note inputting. When you try and replicate those sounds it makes you realise just how much work goes into preparing a live performance, whoever wrote the songs and whatever you play.

Agreed. Particularly the early attempts at BM, TPK etc which back then blew me away as it was so different to any other live band around. No wonder Barney got frustrated by the sound guy when all the hard work was cocked up from time to time.

Absolutely true. You can get a good idea of just how much work they had to put in the songs, and of how multi-layered those compositions really are, from listening to soundcheck recordings - the RFH '84 springs to mind.
