Rules about packaging?

Yesterday I bought 12" confusion (fac93) which is a UK-pressing. The artwork is very nice. I dont know how you call this is english, but you can feel the word confusion with your fingers. I already did own a belgian pressing, but it look much cheaper and you can't "feel" the word confusion.

So are there rules about the packaging. Is the original artwork only for the first pressing. Or are UK-buyers more lucky than the buyers on the continent? whats the story? Thanx

Mine, the factory french edition (not factory/virgin as usual but with a small PM138 sticker on the back and a large "Nouveau New Order" on the frontside) is also embossed but it is 33rpm as the english version is 45rpm.

I think those UK record buyers are lucky:)...cuz the Australian issue of CONFUSION has the same cover but the lettering are not embossed :(....same goes for many other NO 12" releases where UK ( or maybe European? ) issues have paper inner sleeve whereas Australian issues have only plastic inner sleeve, e.g. Round&Round - UK issue has orange inner sleeve, Round&Remix - lime green, etc....( they just kill more trees in UK while Aussies just pump more greenhouse gases maunfacturing those clear plastic sleeves. )

I think the embossed Confusion was just the first pressing. From memory, the non embossed one appeaed at about the same time as the non die-cut Blue Mondays. Maybe part of the same Factory cost-cutting exercise?

I remember seeing thousands of the confusion sleeves used for an installation in the hacienda once, they became a david mach sculpture around the pillars (and quite a lot of them ended up thrown in the canal 'round the back afterwards)

Just try and make sure they are MINTY MINT condition ALWAYS. Otherwise i get a little sad! ROCKET MICK can't bear a MARKED cover but can put up with it IF it is the ONLY ONE i can get........... On a serious note i have bought 12 INCH RECORDS from several places around the world and i LAMENT at the missing coloured INNER sleeves from certain places eg AUSTRALIA.But i do enjoy those OBI(sic) around the JAPAN ones.Canada has some nice single covers eg BLT and GERMANY has some great CD singles.But one of the best ones has to be the PERFECT KISS singles ...two of them that have the FOUR PICTURES OF THE GROUP that match up.QUALITY..........

Probably just something as simple/stupid as NewOrder & Saville oversaw the UK sleeves to make sure they were happy with them,then everywhere else just printed the sleeves up as standard card.

How about a few skips, even when the record looks great. Should you buy, because of the rarity? Or just go for absolute quality? I recently bought True faith advance dj promo 12". on track 3 although 3 skips. How important are skips to you?

SKIPS are a real pain because you don't know about them until after you have purchasd them.Even if it RARE ...not being able to play it is rather ANNOYING.I can only think of ONE record which again was a PROMO of ELECTRONIC which did not play right.Although i still have this i would not SELL it on as this is not RIGHT.But at the same time it is rather USELESS because i bought it early enough before the actual RECORD came out for the purpose of listening to the NEW TRACKS before OFFICIAL RELEASE.So when i found out it skipped it was very annoying.So in the realms of collecting there are many pitfalls....not least trying to maintain their PERFECTION and not getting them DESTROYED or MARKED when partying and drunk.Always hide your collection from your FRIENDS when inviting them round for a few beers.In my case i have to make them sit in my garden because the COLECTION takes up all my HOUSE SPACE!Again though if i just want a DIFFERENT single LP or SINGLE cover i would buy IF the price was RIGHT and take a chance on SKIPPING.But this is HARD decision for any COLLECTOR to make. skips are evil, throw out the vinyl and stick the cover on your wall.
