Busted nicking New Order riffs?

Just flicking around on Eurobird (Sky) and on Chart Show TV there was a song intro that sound very, very like some New Order from the PCL days. Scarily, it morphed into being 3AM by Busted. I can't place what the track is, but I'm certain its a New Order intro they've nicked

If it is, at least a good band might be getting some cash out of the kiddie pop generation

Everyone always laughs at me when I hear a song on the radio and I say, 'that was ripped off from New Order.'

They always groan in horror though, when I play them the original New Order and they realise it's true. Won a few quid that way too...

So, now you're saying that I'm going to have to listen out for 'bastard', sad old Busted that I am, just to check that you're right...

Oh dear... ... I'll let you know what I think!

I'm now waiting for it to come on Chart Show TV (which it does every hour at least) with the New Order folder on my desktop open in Firefox (FTP) to check that.

Hrm, this thread seems to be very highly Ireland based. Scary...

Took just over an hour - I must have turned the TV on just after it ended last time

But yes, the intro does sound a lot like Dream Attack. Not enough to make Island have to pay for it though...

Fuck it, John Denver got away with it didn't he? :evil4:

Well, if Busted ripped off my music without paying, I'd beat them senseless with their own skateboards (don't want to get blood on my one, do I...)

Sod off. Busted are a thousand times better than Cure. 'End Of The World' has to be one of the worst singles this year: the video is awful, & the song itself sounds like a bad cover version of some other band's old, rubbish B-Side.

As for Busted, they are the future of British pop, & while they may cater mainly to pre-pubescent girls (such as ShugZV & SPOne), at least they aren't up their own backsides about what they do.

Oh, thank god you said "pop" there. Because if you'd said any other genre (namely "Rock" and "Grunge", both of which Busted act like they could appeal to, but don't), I'd have had to attack *you* with a skateboard

dont know how anyone could be suprised at new order being ripped/emulated whatever. lets face it they have been a very influential band and a lot of younger acts today do rate new order highly, that said though new order /joy division have hardly been whiter than white when it comes to pinching riffs, just dig out a copy of hot chocolates "emma" and then listen to "theives like us" the guitar riff on emma is exactly the same as hookys bass riff in thieves like us. think im jokin? the man admitted it himself ;). there again whats wrong with a bit of pinching ideas now and again, bands have been doing it for decades.

Course Busted aren't "Rock" or "Grunge" or anything like that, they're a pop band, plain & simple. Next you'll be saying The Cure are "Good". :eek3:

Are you taking the piss, mate?

No, Shelley, I actually like Busted, I think they're alright for a boy-band. They sound rotten live, though, which is another similarity between them & NewOrder...

do they go 'Whooooo!' after every line then? heh

Are we talking about their single at the top of the charts? Can't see any similarity between that and New Order whatsoever...

The *song* doesn't sound like New Order. The intro does. Which you'll rarely hear on radio or most TV stations, as they'll but to the bit of the track that sounds like Busted....

Their No.1 single is a double A-side. 'Thunderbirds Are Go' doesn't sound anything like NO obviously, but it's the other track '3am' that people are saying sounds like 'Dream Attack' or summut from 'PC&L'.

Personally I think these particular people need to clean out their ears a bit, then dip their heads in buckets of mule poo, and wait for the horse flies to land...

I hate Barney for that, I wish his fat missus would belly-bounce him for it. That'd teach the whooping little twat.

Theres nothing wrong with Busted, per se. The music is listenable, sometimes. However, the market they've got isn't the market they aimed for - looking at their styling, etc, they were going for the teenage skateboarding music market (that which I should but don't listen to...). However, the market they've got, is screaming teenage girls. This means that Island will realise they can get *more* screaming teenage girls to listen to the music, and it will slowly descend more and more towards kiddie pop.

This means that if you get interested in them now, you'll become terribly dissapointed when they start doing Westlife ballads. Also, you can't go to the concerts, because you're surrounded by screaming 16 year olds (which is no bad thing when you're my age and its still socially acceptable to go out with a 16 year old, but is otherwise terribly annoying).

If Busted are still around in 25 years time with a 21 year old song thats classed as a total classic, I'll be very very surprised.
