Much-missed/Underrated Bands (Especially for Klumpy)

Hi people - this one will be of interest to Buster in particular as we seem to share knowledge and experience of similar great/innovative "lost" bands mainly from the UK.

Yesterday, to while away my time whilst this message board was down, and in need of some other visual stimulation after the wretched week I just had, I came across loads of other excellent sites which you may or may not have seen, all reviewing and writing about the kind of bands that we seem to share a passion for - and plenty more besides: funny how this happened - all I keyed in on the search engine was the word "MOONSHAKE" and, blow me, how many entries showed up!!! Amusingly half of them were for an computer electronics company called "Moonshake Systems" or something - but that still made me smile. Anyway, I found some great links through this - to Laika, of course, then Disco Inferno (I recommend you check these links out just to read about Disco Inferno's sad premature passing and some very good and sympathetically informative reviews of their last Technicolour album), Bark Psychosis, Kirk Lake, Pram, Rialto, My Bloody Valentine, Snowpony, The God Machine, and a good few others. The best site is called "Misfit City". Have you heard of this one? I came across articles on Laika/Moonshake I'd never previously seen before (on the EARPOLLUTION pages), as well as a most revealing interview with Debbie Googe about why she quit MBV to become a cab driver in London before forming Snowpony with Katharine from Stereolab. One of the Moonshake articles/sites led me to locating, incredibly, MP3s of their "missing" remix-EP of their last "Dirty and Divine" album - something I'd never even knew existed previously, available thru E-Music. I have to sign up before I can download the entire LP. (They give you a free months trial where you're allowed 100 Free MP3s!! Sounds good). You'll find the review of Bark Psychosis's compilation "Game Over" informative too - it mentions their 22-minute single "Scum".

These, and many other bands you may have heard of (BUT NEVER ON A NEW ORDER SITE, OF COURSE!!) can be accessed on the following URLs:

MISFIT CITY - www.collective.co.uk/misfitcity/ish 01/ish01a04.htm
(though there are also many other pages in it and an issue 02 as well)

EARPOLLUTON - www.earpollution.com/apr99/profiles/laika/laika.htm

AN.OTHER - http://pjoe.net/under20.html

One of them even lists a top 20 of great lost/underrated UK bands - a rivetting read!

Do check them out - they offer a refreshing diversion at any rate from the relentless onslaught of all things New Order that we tend to obsess ourselves with here......! :)

And don't forget, if you see any others that are just as good that you think I've not come across - tell me straight away!!

How about the natural leader of the chosen ones....his imperial highness GG ALLIN?!

He doesn't count - too many bricks short of a house. :D

I have a predisposition to hate GG, seeing as a lot of the people behind the trolling of the old Atmosphere site were apparently fans of his....

So it was true, about Debbie doing the cab driver... Will we ever her some My Bloody Valentine new material ?

What about Pale Saints, Ian Masters era ?

Buster, I hope you managed to check a few of the sites there..... And, regarding Pale Saints' Ian Masters, Ian now lives in Japan and is still doing weird stuff in collaboration with a wide array of guises.

If you haven't already, check these sites:

  1. www.fedge.net/ftww/interviews-masters.html
(quite a revealing interview on his past as well as present)

  2. www.dfuse.com/spoons/
(a very funny site on the complete Ian Masters Experience: "The Institute Of Spoons" -definitely worth a peep!)

  3. www.ifrance.com/lostsongsandotherblues/Cdglobal3.html

  4. http://php.indiana.edu/%7Esdelaney/psaints

  5. http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~dweller/dreampop/psaints.html

and here's a few further Disco Inferno sites/pages should you wish to read more about them:

  1. www.jasonwitcher.co.uk/music/disco.php

  2. http://theacf.com/dinferno/

  3. http://communities.msn.co.uk/DiscoInferno

  4. www.netcomuk.co.uk/~tewing/02.html

  5. THE LATEST SITE CONCERNING ALL THINGS CONNECTED WITH DISCO INFERNO AND ALL THEIR LATEST PROJECTS, SPIN-OFFS AND SOLO ACTIVITIES:

Well, I was a big Pale Saints admirer too - I'd just spent the last few years wondering what on earth happened to them as I hadn't heard any thing from them in absolutly ages.

I think this thread has helped shed muhc light on the mystery for me at least - so thanks to Mart for this info again. I just thuoght there was no web sites devoted to the band as they were'nt that famous or sucesfull. Honestly, some of you don't know what you'll be missing if he carrys out his threat to leave the site! I've always found some of his posts very informative, funny and honest, even if others think he's abit mouthy and off his head. Surely he's not that bad is he?

Todd :)

You mean, he really isn't going to come back, Mario?

I'm afraid so Todd. Well he predicted his leaving didn't he? Wouldn't surprise me though that he would suddenly turn up again, using a new(female?) name just to confuse us all.And now that we are on it, i always thought he was Prince Charles who finally found a way to be amongst some nice people and chat with them about his fav topic: NEW ORDER :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Well, is he or isn't he "Gary Ritman" ?

Which is either a big joke or a real weird coincidence..

Since it's almost Martin Gray in reverse :)

So if he is, he's 1000 since a while !

Could be could be, i think you webmasters should know? Maybe it is Ria Try Man G

Well, Nicolas, it could not be a coincidence as Gary & Martin shared an almost identical email addresse.

In fact, Martin recently confessed in some other thread he was indeed Gary Ritman...

Perhaps we should all dial 999 (get it?!) and report him as a missing person.

Come to think of it, does anybody reckon he could have done a Richey Edwards??

Anybody here pass near the severn Bridge by any chance ?

Hehe, actually, it's impossible to register on the same email address, so he obviously have more than one registration.

Of course, this is against our "terms of use", but still I find it funny... :D

Ah, Richey Edwards...they STILL don't know what happened (though it's pretty safe to assume he, Elvis, and Jimmy Hoffa share a bungalow in Fort Lauderdale, FLA)

A massive call. They were fucking gorgeous weren't they?

It's On / Life Of Brian was the Dog's and should have finished all the bullshit hype....a la Cockney Mondays.

They simply surfaced at the wrong time...a la Madchester.

Liam needs to sort his shit out with McGee (Poptones).

Until he does check out the equally dormant but mighty Campag Velocet. www.harsharks.com
