Japanese verions and their bonus tracks

I sent an email to the music guru Alan Cross from 102.1 The Edge radio station asking him why albums ( Including New Order's Get Ready ) in Japan have bonus tracks, remixes, and/or additional material. Get Ready in Japan has "Behind Closed Doors" as a bonus track if anybody here doesn't already know that hehe.

He said due to some economic quirk, the imports sell very cheap in Japan so Japanese Labels add bonus tracks to their versions of albums from popular artists ( red hot chili peppers, radiohead, doves, etc ) to entise people to pay the larger price for the domestic instead of getting the cheaper import.

I wish my country did that...imports here usually cost about twice as much as domestic.

The problem with b-sides and extra tracks is that they get 0 radio time nowadays and often some of them are better than the album material. Groups that have released bside albums from skinny puppy to doves to moby (even new order's substance which had a few singles that were once bsides) there are some wonderful gems in there and they never get played.

In the case of Get Ready though, I felt that Run Wild is probably my least favorite NO track of all time and certainly a whimpering weak link in Get Ready. ( rock the shack at least holds cult status )Behind Closed Doors, Sabotage, and/or Player in the League (if it was written before Here To Stay ) could have been included to close out a good album like Get Ready instead.

Thew import versions of most albums in Japan are a rarity there and thus why they are often not purchased.

And for the record, Japan is NOT that expensive folks. In reality, a Big Mac is about the same price as well as CD's. I lived there for 7 years and found that Japan is many areas is actually CHEAPER than say...California!!

The bonus tracks aren't bonus tracks in Japan...they are the norm. Just a fact of life.

Hence, why a majority of my 2600+ cds are Japanese.

I've a 256CD book with nothing but NO/JD in it. (No homemade CDRs in there either)
