Nothing beats a bit of using a loyal fanbase in a first post, so here goes...

How comes the Blue Monday-95 Jam & Spoon Manuela mix is one minute longer on the cd single than the one included in the Retro box? Only noticed it now, but can anyone point the difference out?

Thanks

Welcome to the Atrocity Exhibition.

Can't help with the question though sorry, having refused to listen to any version of Blue Monday for about 15 years now !

Maybe it needed to be shorter so that all tracks could fit the CD? I know that they did not make the track 1 minute shorter by fade it out (which is a method sometimes used, see the German 7" promo version of Confusion). Exactly what was edited out I don't know - probably the beginning, ending, and some passage in the middle... Normally I use my two DJ CD-players (or a software like MixMeister) to play the two tracks simultaneously to compare them, but I leave that up to someone else...

BTW: Welcome. Don't forget to bookmark the New Order Discography. Very handy ;)

Au contraire, this mix is very good.

But it's not the only one edited on Retro, the Sabre of Paradise remix of Regret is 50% of the original one...

I didn't check the others though, but that doesn't beat Let's Go on the bonus CD...

The 'Confusion' Koma and Bones is different to what was released as a single on 'Retro' also - the twelve-inch had the 83 version's vocals and was about 8 minutes long, whereas the 'Retro' mix is shorter and has Barney's new vocal that featured on the Koma and Bones CD single edit.

The Lee Combs 'Crystal' remix is also shorter, and 'Shellshock' is the edited 'Substance' version rather than the full twelve-inch. Guess they've all been clipped to fit neatly on the CD. As ever, see http://www.trustnoone.org.uk/NewOrderTrackList.html for my New Order track listings, with my own, double-checked timings listed in the order of release.
