Get Ready

I've been listening to this album alot lately and I've found that it has really grown on me. I remember not caring too much for it outside of "Crystal," "Primitive Notion" and "Someone Like You."

Now I find I like every track other than "Slow Jam," and "Rock the Shack," both of whom I still loath.

I've also found if I can block out the singing of Billy Corgan and the lyrics I love "Turn My Way."

I know everyone has different ideas about what New Order does best, but I feel like this album had an energy to it that wasn't found on Republic. I'd have to say musically it's spot on with everyone contributing to the music instead of all synth with a cameo by Peter Hook (Which is what I consider almost all of Republic to be).

I know it's been discussed before somewhere on the 172 pages of threads, but I wanted to bring it up.

Slow Jam = good Rock the Cack = er... cack!

As I said, we've all got different ideas on what are the best songs. :)

I just can't get into either of those songs, New Order, in my opinion, does best when it has everything all together guitar, bass, synth, drums. Songs like TPK, BLT, Regret, Face up, etc.

I just can't get into either of those songs, New Order, in my opinion, does best when it has everything all together guitar, bass, synth, drums. Songs like TPK, BLT, Regret, Face up, etc.

That was a joke by the way, for the sake of the peoples here on this site who havae been engaging in this very argument since the dawn of time.

But I DO really dig Slow Jam!! Regardless, I think it's an OK tune. I think I listen to RTS just to spite people anymore.

I hate "Rock The Shack" and "Slow Jam" apart from that, the album is wonderful.

Somewhere I misplaced Get Ready. But what I do remember is that it's a album you can put on and enjoy without a single song that makes you want to remove the disc. the weakest song on there IMHO is Someone Like You. I do like Slow jam, would to hear hooky sing it. RTS reminds me of Joy Division despite the chorus.

I really like Get Ready but listened to it so much when it first came out, I sickened myself. Listened to it again the other day though and still think it was a great comeback. My own fav's from the album are Primitive Notion and Close Range. The only song that I would say that I can't really be bothered with is 'Run Wild'. I don't mind Slow Jam and quite like Rock the Shack!!!

Alas...a true fan. GR fans unite!!

When it first came out I really liked Crystal and Someone like You. Now that I've heard other mixes of those tracks, the GR versions are just very bland. Hasn't had a play for a good 12 months now.

i get sick with some of the songs, it kinda gets tired quickly, while PCL never dies on my mind lol, even movement last longer then get ready

I like Run Wild and I'm surprised that no one else on here seems to. It reminds me of Rob Gretton and it has a lovely bass line.

I like Rock The Shack-- apart from the shite lyrics.

Slow Jam is take it or leave it for me but Rock The Shack is in that catagory with songs like "Fine Time" and "Every Little Counts". Songs people generally love to hate :). Get Ready was a very good album. It got a lot of critical acclaim from newspapers and magazines here anyway. Run Wild to me was the only song I truly did not like and it is the only New Order song I feel that way about.

I think Turn My Way shouldve been a single,its a great song and havin Billy Corgan on it wouldve brought larger sales,higher chart position & higher profile.

I used to be a dishwasher in this pub in nashville with inadequate air conditioning. My friend Rick gave me Get Ready, so I gave it to the bartender. Every time he played it I noticed I stopped sweating. We also used it to drown out the shit-bands that were booked in on any given night. We sold more Guiness and Bodington's when Get Ready was on...

I like Rock the Casbah.

C'mon though. Rock the Shack evokes all of this controversy. I pointed out earlier it belongs in a catagory of the type of songs people enjoy hating. Run Wild to me is like a John Denver song...Rock the Shack however is a really bad New Order song. THAT should be good enough for anyone

Get Ready was a fabulous comeback album that challenged everyone's perceptions of what a New Order album should be, and had something for everyone, epic NO classics like Crystal, acoustic ballads, rockin' collaborations and even some US MOR dross. It's also probably more consistent than some earlier releases. Pity they chose to omit the songs they did in favour of some that most would agree are weaker (RTS being a case in point), but there you go. As I've speculated before, the inclusion of RTS may have had something to do with the promotion of the record before release that emphasised collaborations with Primal Scream.

Honestly, if they took out the symphonic breakdown and Bernard's terrible last line in the song, I think Run Wild would have been perfect.
