could oasis have been the saviour of factory records?

hola, i was watching the jonathan ross show (a bit like letterman but more camp!) last week. Noel Gallagher (oasis) was a guest . he said that Factory records turned oasis down for a record deal as they we'rent good enough!(his exact words) Do you think that if Factory had signed oasis then perhaps they might still be around today? possibly ? definately maybe ? or would they still have gone bankrupt?

I would have liked to have seen the Gallaghers square up to Tony Wilson. Those two knuckle-scraping neanderthals threatening to give King Ponce of Manchester a good thrashing.

I don't think Oasis would have saved Factory from bankruptcy because Wilson is an ineffectual old bastard who couldn't organise a piss-up in Boddingtons Brewery. Oasis needed someone at the time like Alan McGee who actually knows how to promote a band & do business.

Agreed on Oasis though, Nutster, the first album was OK (not the classic everyone says it is, though), the second was great, the third was fairly good but an overall disappointment, & the last two have been just plain shite. The trouble with Noel Gallagher is that he refuses to let his own musical style & tastes mature or develop, he's just stuck in the same rut he was in 1997, & until he gets out of it, he'll never make another record nearly as good as 'Morning Glory'. Take his new single with Ian Brown, for example, the pair just stand there like it's 1994 again with their duffle coats & gormless "I'm from Manchester, aaaarr kid" expressions, refusing to acknowledge that "rock `n roll", as they like to call it, has moved on & left them behind like a couple of unimportant old-age pensioners.

Noel is obviously sticking to his guns when he said in an interview years ago that "keyboards are crap" & he "would never use sequencers". Ironic really that Oasis are/were bosom buddies with an innovative musician like Peter Hook. Strangely not a clash of musical differences, there. Having said that, Monaco sounded like they were trying too hard to sound like Oasis on a couple of tracks from 'Music For Pleasure' so even Hooky was off the ball somewhat that time.

When u say "they might still be around today" u're refering to Factory or Oasis?

I think it was in NO story where AHW said he had the chance to sign Oasis and Pulp but didn't have the money. He said he really regretted it.

Exactly, he's a bloody hypocrite. Plus, you'd think that if he is prepared to innovate on a "guest basis" with the Chemicals, Prodigy etc, you'd think he might one day wake up & try something different with his own band.

By 92 Factory were fucked for money, they went bust in the November so I think AHW knew he couldn't finance an album and Oasis would have been caught up in legal wranglings so just as well for them they didn't get signed.

Wilson already said he didn't have the money for The Smiths. Without the Hacienda, Factory would have been even better but the property decision may still have sunk them.

He could have also signed Simply Red :D, but I'm with God at the end of 24hpp.
