Well... was going to mention Underworld, Orbital, Royksopp, Planet Perfecto and god knows who else but it seems you've all covered it! How about Chicane??? Plenty of nice guitary textures mixed with dreamy blissed out trance :thumb:

If its true that Deep Dish are remixing the new single it should be a good one. They usually make use of most of the elements of the original song rather than just using the acapella.

The best person they could get tho is Carl Craig.

To be honest I always think its pretty crappy that bands now tend to spend four or five years recording albums but never think of at least releasing one or two singles in the big gap between these albums as a way of at least keeping the fans happy. Too often they (New Order and many others) wait until the album is complete and then issue one single a fortnight beofre the album to help "promote" it and then maybe release three further singles in quick succession after the album to try and keep in in the nations consciousness. Whatever happened to the days when artists were not afraid to take risks and bring out NON-album singles or singles that trailed album by more than six months? It's all very safe now I think and New Order are amongst the worst offenders.

And to the issue of remixes, we all know how mixed the results are when New Order have others reworking their best songs so this time I think a great idea - though of course it isnt likely to happen - is if their remixers were ALL MANCHESTER BASED ACTS - thus keeping a nice regional/local vibe to everything. I suggest the following people should have a try at remixing all the next New Order singles - and keep it in the family so to speak:

Mr Scruff Rae and Christian The Unabombers Graeme Massey or 808 State Doves Mum and Dad Clint Boon Mark E Smith Alpinestars Mark Burgess of Chameleons Badly Drawn Boy /Andy Votel Elbow Kermit of Black Grape Gabrelles Wish

Let's leave Shaun Ryder out of this exercise cos I really think he's past it. :evil4:

What do others think?

Perhaps New Order should do their own remixes? they have the talent to do so, don't they?

Shaun isn't past it, out of it, yes, but not past it. :D

I think he is - that solo album of his was bloody terrible. I've heard better sounding trolley crashes outside our local Sainsburys. ;)

I guess Kevin Saunderson is half way there for some of the above as he is one of the detroit legends and did remix round & round.

A Guy Called Gerald supported them at the secc in 1989 although he's since mutated in a more jungle direction but I've not heard any recent releases.

Welcome to the world of "the record label controls marketing and the artists don't have much to say about it". It is known that an (mainstream) artist these days make most money from touring and perhaps merchandise. The label wants the biggest piece of the recordsale to recoup the cost of producing, promoting, etc. As with any big or huge corporation, the boards prefer to play it safe. An inbetween-albums single will probably not generate enough revenue to yield a satisfactory ROI.

Most albums don't really have an album's worth of material on them anyway. From an artistic standpoint, it makes far more sense to release quality singles on a more frequent basis than to put 2 or 3 quality singles on an "album" filled out with, well, filler. Unless an artist has a compelling reason to release an album-- a prolific period, a shudder "concept"-- the artist should concentrate on recording quality singles, and maybe release them as an "album" when enough quality singles have been released. Who knows, it might even make business sense...

I'm wondering if the rise in "legit" music downloads might make the single economically viable again? Or will the music biz simply treat the mas other singles to be used to promote an album?

Maybe Rammstein?

World (perfecto mix) is the best ever NewOrder remix - much better than the album version.

Arthur Baker's 1963 (off retro) is sublime.

I guess Id like to see those 2 do some mixing.

Off topic:What about an MJefferson mix of vanishing point

Mylo, Black Strobe, Tiefschwarz, Avalanches, Neptunes, LCD Soundsystem, Playgroup, Rythmes Digitales, The Faint or Felix Da Housecat could all do a very nice job.

But I'd actually really prefer a decent B-side song to another remix.

I'd like them to release singles the following way:

Disc 1:

Single Edit or Full Length Version Non-Album Track Single Instrumental

Disc 2:

    Single Remixes

This way, those who don't care for mixes can save their money.

I dislike non-album tracks on singles. I'd prefer a CD1 (or an 8CM mini-CD1, even bettter) with just the single on it, maybe the instrumental if suitable, for say EUR2.99; and then a CD2 with remixes and the Video (in MPEG format as the standards specify, please), but also the proper, album edit of the track.

Non-Album tracks (b-sides) are a treasure to collectors. Now that New Order tend to release album tracks as singles, having something new on the flipside is even more important.

I`d love to see them release a "New Order Vs Richard X" track.

any from Lee Coombs (Crystal was excellent) Plump Djs, Adam Freeland, Evil 9, Unkle, Meat katie or Freestylers could do decent breaks mix if the tune suited. Evil 9 particuarly have done some excellent remixes recently

Sasha as always would be good.

Something must be going on in the World of New Order at the moment anyway. From my seat in my office I can see them doing a photo shoot in the adjacent building.

for the record, Phil's in the shots, and the background will be some big glass windows, and sitting against a big white wall...
