Apologies if this poll has been run before, I couldn't be bothered trawling through 173 odd forum pages to see if it had  I personally prefer the Osborne Original mix from the bonus disc of Retro. You could say there isn't a huge amount of difference between the two, but I think his mix is a bit more dreamy and "reverbed" than Barney's more stripped down version. Even the female backing vocals seem to suit the chorus quite well, but ordinarily I can abide any "woooo-ooo" etc. in the background of a NO song. The orchestrations seem a bit "fuller" in Osborne's mix too.

Cheers, Ally.

None. They are all shit. Best version was the one I did in the Roadhouse toilets before the Homage gig in 2002.

Gotta go with Osborne's original mix on this one. It's just a superior mix to Barney's. It's better balanced and draws the listener into it. Hooky's bass is mixed better in Osborne's version as well. I 'spose what it all boils down to is whether or not you prefer something with the additional production Osborne brings in or something a little less busy. Also, Osborne has better stereo seperation of the double tracked acoustic guitar and the melodica doesn't seem as piercing in his mix... at least to these ears anyway. I also noticed Osborne brings the acoustic guitar back to mono in the center when it's just guitar and vocal and then brings it back to stereo when the drums come back in. More ear candy... he gets my vote.... doesn't matter if it's a shit song or not: still sounds like New Order to me.

I do like the way Barney's mix progresses by building a few elements at a time like the way the backing vocals are missing from the first chorus. It should have been the same on Osborne's mix as well to help introduce another element further into the song. Just my two cents... as you were...
