Now that the ice is well and truely broken, I was just wandering if anyone has read Ian Curtis' biography?

I finished reading it yesterday and found it really.....interesting.

Although in places it seemed a bit too 'and then we got a new car' and 'I didn't like Mary's dress that night' I still felt it gave a good overall impression of the band and Ian.

Also, I now hold a strong grudge againt a Belgian woman called 'Annik' :D

I doen't feel Annick did anything "wrong", she shouldn't have fallen in love with a married man, true, but you don't choose who you fall in love with, it just happens. Remember, that when Ian died, she spent a week locked away in Rob Gretton's spare room playing "Closer" and bawling her eyes out. I think that would be a sign of somebody in love.

It was a good story indeed. I found a bit of mirroring of myself and my oh so far out there life. But I do think that Ian acted like a jerk-off in his personal life.

Debbie's book only solidifies that stance for me.

Ian Curtis (Rest His Soul), Great singer and FANTASTIC Lyrisist....bad hubby.

I agree Sir Chunks. If you want to screw around, that's fine, but don't get married and don't have children.

Read the book when it was first published in 95.Great read. .Makes the everyday into a great drama .Superb.Ian Curtis and Joy Division dealt with very grown up adult problems as apposed to Nirvana who just spoke to snotty little spoilt American brats.

I rather liked Nirvana...and Kurt may have appealed to little spoilt brats (not just American) but I don't think he was particularly happy about it.

You need to read the Kurt Cobain bio "Heavier Than Heaven" by Charles Cross, it paints a picture of a very complex, intelligent, sensitive, and in the end, a very fuct up man. Much like Ian Curtis before him.

This book (Touching from a Distance) changed my life in many ways. It let me get a small look into who this tortured genius was. I got to see some of the good and some of the ugly sides of this incredibly talented person from the perspective of his wife. And although it is a very depressing book, it is also inspiring to me. The book also includes some of my favorite photos of Ian, and all of his masterful lyrics.

Ian Curtis is my personal favorite figure in music. He had the most amazing voice, and was a truly great lyricist. I hope he has found peace.
