(hear me out before you call me a swine)

Perhaps NO should do what Moby did back when his Play album wasn't selling and try and sell the tracks off Get Ready to advertisors. Nothing like the whole album, mind you, but I could see well-done adds featuring tracks like Someone Like You, Primitive Notion or RTS even. And if not commercials, why not have Get Ready songs heard during tv show promos (you know, "on a very special ER" or something like that). Huh, what do you think? Will it work?

does it matter that GR hasn't done exceptionally well in the charts? As long as the band and the true fans are happy, surely chart success is inconsequential?

Thats already happening. I hear crystal, 60mph, close range, primitive notion all the time.

The trouble is : I wouldn't want New Order's lack of commercial success jeopardize their future...

Anyone remember the credit card commercial using Blue Monday:nonono:

American Express weren't it. Theres obviously an NO fan somewhere at Skysports, as it features Primitive Notion (for their payperview I think) which is always on, Crystal, 60MPH...and even Shine by Monaco (I think anyway).

probably lining London Records pockets enough for them not to be giving a fuck about the performance of GR, and its singles.

New Order tunes are everywhere on t.v., it must be something to do with the record company cashing in to make up the bawbees they don't get through record sales. :smoking:

They're not everywhere on TV here, unfortunately.

i DON'T THINK COMMERCIAL SUCCESS HAS EVER influenced our heroes existence, buster. But of course that was in the independent days of Factory records. I dont know about todays recordlabel, but i think if they wouldn't go for another NOcd(hopefully there are more to come)other labels will have to form a queue(?) 'cause who wouldn't want to be known as NOcd publisher?

I just think at this stage, NO having some chart success (nothing like a Destiny's Child or Britney, just modest enough sales to make a good showing) would certainly help persuede them that there are fans out there hungry for new NO. Clever advertising would help expose people to the album (again, think what it did for Moby's Play)

Well...remember when CNN kept anouncing the big change they were making, they would play Crystal in the background of that little commercial...and not a soul has mentioned that Sunkist commercial they did back in the 80's...

And Tabsy...are you quite sure that Moby hadn't already sold all those commercial rights before the release of the album? I seem to recal reading that in the days leading up to the release....

Well Tabsy,

I never knew the Bailey's publicity was actually Porcelain by Moby until I saw the preview for the movie The Beach and said to myself "What? This catchy tune is really a song?".. and then I checked what was going to be on the soundtrack (except Brutal that I already know) and found out to my surprise it was Moby...

Got the song, and simply love that track.. and the weird thing is the song became a radio hit here 6 months after that.. so a lot of time after Play was released.

So would that help New Order? Not sure.. what would help is to release Turn My Way and shoot a video with the band + Billy Corgan ASAP.....

God knows what Reprise Records is doing...

Oh and of course.. it matters to us if New Order has commercial success because this is what will decide if they will tour here or not..

So lucky European & Aussie bastards, help us out, we need our New Order fix asap!! :happytongue:

Jeff Again: I think Moby released it first, it didn't do squat, so he decided to license the album tracks to various advertisors in a depserate bid to get his music heard. He made have sold off the rights previous to the release, but I think it was a while before Play was actually being used

Nic: TMW is probably after Primitive Notion (sorry, 60 MPH doesn't have the same vibe for me as those two), but I think BC is busy hoccing the Smashing Pumpkins greatest-hits package (may actually pick that one up myself after Xmas) but then again, I could be wrong, he might be free to do a video. let's hope so, that would be nice to see....

Nic, I spoke with Bernard earlier today, and he said that all of you looking for New Order to play the east coast could just bugger off...he said they will come to Dallas, San Francisco, LA, and Seattle...but the frigging weather in Canada is just too much like it was back home...glad I could bring you such good news (and remember, I am utterly full of shit)...

Let's face it. As much as we would like to think that the band just loves to get together and make songs purely for artistic expression, it's not likely. Making music and touring is a lot of work. What justifies that work? Money!

Cheers Sebsy, yes it was American Express, and the order are always on the TV with their music...Football Focus is a prime example..Crystal, 60 miles an hour & Primitive Notion are used quite a lot...then you have the trailers for programmes...using old & new tunes such as Regret, Close Jam & Temptation

What the f*** is Close Jam ???

Notice how they always end up on footy shows. the old football hooligan thing again. I hope your referring to Close Range Shugsy, nobody would be as stupid as to use Slow Jam for an ad surely - guaranteed to get the viewer switching channel I'd have thought

Mr. Taboo...

maybe New Order could do one of those GAP commercials that have been popping up all over my tv lately...you know the one, all those folks singing that old song about giving a little bit of my love to you blah blah blah...I've been able to identify Dwight Yoakum, Melissa Ethridge, I think Jewel, and I have no idea who those other folks are...

I apologise me ole mucker! As I've said on another thread - I was a wee bit pissed last night:nod:

No Gap commercials (that just smacks of "oh, look at all the stuff I can't afford"), just something tasteful (think the car ad using Buzzcocks "What do I get?". That was funny and informative)

And Tabsy....Billy isn't busy with this Smashing Pumpkins thing...he's got himself a new band...him and Mr. Iha and a couple of other slap nuts are out trying to make music
