The original simply has that special something that none of the remixes have. It's still good after all these years.

Funny that NO only had two top 40 hits EVER in Holland, Blue Monday (at #3) and Blue Monday 88 (at #5). No True Faith, Perfect Kiss, BLT, Regret, Crystal etc. etc..... What can I say.

Yes. Especially its 5"1/4 floppy-style sleeve - which was the reason why I bought it though I already had Substance.

I like the last 30secs or so of BM88 when everythings chucked in the mix. The original is so much better though - and thats why thats the one that still gets played.

Sorry Tabsy, i've never been able to come to terms with BM88, it's just a tad overdub heavy.

Quincy Jones ruined Blue Monday with that hideous example of a re-mix '88... the year 1988 was particularly noted for other appauling tunes and hair styles such as the outburst of neighbours and Steve, Aitkat and Watermellon.... also, Rick Hastley and his Charles Chaplin pants.

There is only one Blue Moonday and it ain't 1988's efforgee.

Okay, BM 88 isn't quite as good as the original, but it doesn't stray too far from the original so as to be something completely different.

Well, with all this discussion of BM88 I guess I'll have to pull it out and remind myself just how awful I'm sure it is.

So what about the later ones, Tabsy? Wasn't there also a BM95?

I've never really heard that one all the way thru (caught the first little bit on here before the rebuffering set in, and being the impatient bastard that I am, I decided to stop it entirely), so I can't really weigh in on it.

The BM '95 effort starts well but when Barney sings they've sifled his vocal through a drainpipe so it sounds like what he would sound like if he was a half-human half-tin can/drainpipe type being. Then they forget to turn Hooky's bass up and by the end of it the mix is that bad all you can here are the drums which sound like they have been acquired from a suitably cheap pet shop selling only cheap sounding drums this week thank you.

Tabsy, its the subtle difference that makes all the difference in the end. You say BM '88 is only slightly different from '83?... that's like saying that some re-mixes are only slightly different from the originals... which to me, is almost like saying you'd lke to sleep with my wife whilst she is chained up and I'm forced behind a glass screen for viewing purposes.... mmmm, maybe I could have used a different analogy... one less kinky and, well I'll have to stop there I've got a semi on.

BM88 video was cool. One of their best. BM95 sounds horribly dated now in a way that BM'83 never has. Wonder what BM'02 will sound like when London Records decide they need a few more squid in their pocket?

Never seen the original video let alone knew that there was one. Always pissed me off as when ever Blue Monday was played or selected by someone on MTV they would always show the 88 version which admittedly has a no bad video but the track itself is on the pish side. It's like that bloody True Faith 94 mix with the video medley. Why the feck does that still get played/shown? Tsk.

Snake face I have a permanent stuble which you could class as a tash... in fact, last Chrimbo me bird bought me a beard trimmer which is what I have in a way, a sort of infinite beard on me face. I usually trim back to a no. 2 every couple of days but my trimmer has been hammered this year and can't charge up the way it use to... so its more like an electric drag than a fully pepped up machine suitably oiled for the task.

It should be stated that I've had this style since the early nineties... at which point the half-beard comfortably hid the Pringles mouth-side scars.

Okay, Tabsy, I listened to BM88 twice last night, and listened to the original once in between.

I don't care for the gargling, Coca Cola swilling sound effects at the beginning, but apart from that, I agree that I can at least listen to BM88 with some degree of enjoyment, which I'm afraid is more than I can say about the original, which at this point I just find BORING!

In regards ot (Mel) Gibson: my coz had a very funny idea once: have Gibson play Hitler. He does play everything, if you've noticed, and historical dramas seem to be big on his agenda, so why not? I'm sure he could bring some much-needed warmth to the worst mass-murderer in history.....

you can count me in on that! Though i must admit there is nothing like the original. A friend of mine,who is not such a new order fan was always saying(he has trouble remembring things,haha)yeah that song with the machinegun intro.So i knew he meant BM
