No, I would love to... I remember sitting at the bar, and the guy announced that Sinead O Connor couldnt make it, so here's New Order...., and they were straight into it...there was pints flying in all directions,all the New Order heads were at the bar getting ready to drink there way through O Connors set, and suddenly there was a mad rush, it was crazy...but a great show as ever (nearly!)saw them in SFX in dublin years before that..but thats another story....
Good 2 have you here dave, I was at the Point that night, up in section A beside the freebee seats - great view but I wanted 2 be dancing downstairs - looked like great fun down there. Still, at 25 I was about 10 years older than all the heads downn there. I remember Barney (& hooky) dancing like they had been watching the karate kid (posing wit 2 hands & 1 foot in the air) - am I the only one who thought that was weird?
I'll stick the recording up at some stage in the near future. Not the best quality, but legendary in its own right.

cuanad, you said you were 25 so thats why u were upstairs !?!? it was my 30th birthday.....I manhandled people of all races and creed out of my way to get to the front, not my style normally, but i was up for it... U should have got up and gone downstairs, there was lots of room !

Truth is, I would have, but she who must be obayed was there to keep me company (dosnt like NO much, cant stand Barneys voice) & she wouldnt go down (story of me life!). Still, it was great 2 see them again, it had been so long since the SFX in '86 I thought they would never come back.
(I was stuck RIGHT at the front for the 2 gigs in '86 - right infront of Hookys mikestand squashed against the 'barrier'- thats the best place 2 get a NO gig!)

Remember sitting on the floor with three mates, sipping ale, at the bar at the top-back of the venue and then hearing 'Hello, we're New Order!' from somewhere downstairs. They'd gone on early. Cue pandemonium. Seem to remember there was two escalators, one up, one down, and loads of people were piling down the UP escalator!

Yeah, a couple of members of the Hothouse Flowers & sundry others having a 'jam' of sorts - it was crap. Surprised you stayed for that - from where I was it looked like around 3,000 people left once NO finished. I stayed for about an hour - & then went to a midnight gig at the olympia! Wasnt worth it tho, the whole night went downhill once NO finished.
Aside: nice to see so many Irish/Dubs on the site - growing up supporting NO in Dublin always felt like you were the only one in the city

Think his brother is an actor - I always thought Liam's 'sincere' singing was an act anyway - some of their songs were good but he would put anyone off them.
We spoke to a security guard who was pissed off that HF were on last as 'once you start you can't get them off'.
Stayed to the end to kill time as we were on early flight back to Leeds so we went clubbing then dossed in airport overnight. From this experience I can suggest Dublin nightclubs are crap! In a cellar and the only alcohol that could be bought was Liebfraumilch by the bottle.

John and Lorraine were also at the Dublin gig, dunno what it sounded like being there, but if the audio bootlegs are anything to go by, I'm glad I wasnae there, possibly the worst sounding bootleg I've heard, and let's face it, I've heard a few bad one's!

Nice to hear from bodies who were at the point that night, The Point is the worst venue for gigs anywhere, bar none, theres more atmosphere at a funeral, but despite that, and despite a lousy set list, the lads rocked...while the hothouse fools played we were doing hooky bass playing impersonations at the back of the hall, great craic... as for the 86 gig at the SFX..that was more like it, apart from the technical breakdown during blue monday, as usual !! Barney's immortal line..."you've probably guessed by now were trying to bluff our way through a fuck up "... does anyone remember the name of that documemtry about NO, which featured barney slagging off tony the wanker wilson ?
I'd like to hear The Point 93 or indeed any Irish show for that matter...
Seems all the other Irish members are way older, I wasn't born for the SFX show, and I was 6 for the Point...

I dont remember the BM fuckup - was that the 1st or 2nd night? (i think BM was about the 5th song on one night & in the ENCORE[!] the other - besides that, subsequent alcohol has wiped most memory)
I don't remember hearing that line on any of the tapes. BM was 2nd track at first night, first encore at 2nd night.

Congratulations! - for sharing the same birthday as me
I was a mere 19 in 1993 and saw the band for the first time that year at the Reading Festival, although previously having seen Electronic a couple of years earlier, 93 is the year I will always remember with fond memories of for hearing the 'Order for the first time :D

Hopefully NewOrder will play somewhere small next time they come to Ireland (althouh If I was in the band, I wouldnt bother) - anywhere but the fucking point. I think ill have to cross the water to see them regardless. Manchester and London are also great spots to pick up records
