Best New Order Side Project — Forum Archive

What does everyone think is the best (and worst) album by a New Order side project? All I own is Monaco (which i like) and wonder how the other side projects sound. I've heard that the Other Two are very unique but haven't heard much about Electronic and Revenge.

Most people will tell you Electronic because Bernard is singing... I'm not sure people would tell the same if Neil Tennant has been singing all the songs.

I must say, I think they have done quite a good job when they are musicians in the project.

I don't think Bernard ever done a bad side-project, thinking Security and Spanish Heart might be the weakest, but Out of Control and This Time I'm Not Wrong are quality tunes!

Electronic's 3 albums are great, some people might not like the dance orientation of the 2nd one, and some people won't like the guitar orientation of the 3rd one (despite that this is the "father" of Get Ready)

Monaco did 2 good albums, can't really find bad material on those, but that's me. Plus Hooky did a great job with Hybrid, I enjoy True To Form and Higher Than A Skyscraper very much. I'm not a fan of Revenge though...

The Other Two did average albums, despite having, IMHO, one top track in Selfish.

So the best one? You can't compare, because David Potts isn't the same kind of musician that Johnny Marr is, neither the Pet Shop Boys, not the same background of success, so put Hooky with the same type of people, it might have turned even better... I like them both, but the best album is Electronic's first one.

My personal opinion is probably Electronic but I am admitting a bias here because I am massive Smiths fan and a fan of Johnny Marr.

I think a lot of Monaco stuff is good as well, for example What Do you want from me is a great cheesy pop song that works well but also sounds like a New Order record in many ways.

I can't think of a worst, but The Other Two I guess would be it even though I like that one too

Electronic!! Second album was merely OK. TT was definately the best, especially the 2 disc deluxe version! That's a yummy CD.

I wasn't too impressed with Monaco's second album though...kinda cheesy. It reminded me of circa 81-82 depeche mode....Eeewwwww!!

Revenge=ROCK!!!!

OT - Both albums make for a good listen because they don't take themselves too seriously. A good light hearted romp?!

They've all had their good moments... I generally like the Other Two's albums but they're nothing to write home about particularly. Two albums packed with St Etienne / Dubstar styled techno-pop.
I like some of the stuff Revenge did but once again nothing outstanding. Monaco did a couple of brilliant tracks but too much Oasis-styled filler IMO. Must mean Electronic are my favourite!!! Although I have no time for Twisted Tenderness... :ohwell:

The debut Electronic album for me. Although,i like nearly everything any of them has done,i`ve always thought "One True Passion" with Bernard on vocals would of been a great follow up to Technique.

Recorded: The Other Two Live, Revenge without a doubt. They were the right band at the right time playing small venues, I'm not so sure how that would come over now though.

Electronic, best AND the worst.

Their eponymous album was way better than Republic could ever hope to be, their next two albums sit at the bottom of the pile, way below all offerings from T02, Revenge and Monaco.

I agree it has its faults, but at least it hasnt dated like their first album and sounds a lot more mature as well.

Let's face it, Twisted Turds and "Monaco" were the mistakes that convinced Barney and Hooky that they worked better together than apart. Both are toss.

Mate, I apologise: I've just realised that I was talking about "Raise the Pressure"!!!!

Twisted Tenderness is OK (though the fact that I got the two mixed up shows how little I listen to them!)

Then Get Ready must be also in the back of the pile.. since Twisted Tenderness and Get Ready are so close.

I know it's all a matter of taste, but IMHO, Vivid, Prodigal Son and Twisted Tenderness (the song) are better than anything T02 and Revenge did...
