Having listened to the recently unearthed mixer of this gig, I have to admit being sceptical about Exercise One being the opening track.

I can accept the reasons for the abrupt ending given, but it just doesn't sound like it came from the same source. Maybe it's just my ears...

I'm not sure either. Having had two separate audience sources before, neither of which contained the track, I would be surprised if everyone recording the gig managed to miss the first song! Unless, as Craigie says in his notes, something electrical happened on stage to force the abrupt ending, and there was then some delay before She's Lost Control started up, which might explain things. I dunno.

Yeah, same here, Clive.

Also, why the audience tape doesn't have "Exercise One"? This makes me very suspicious about this track. :skeptic:

could it be the soundcheck?

Two separate audience sources?

Yep, the one everyone's got, albeit a generation further from the master, and a totally different source with some introduction at the start of She's Lost Control, which I shall dig out and post in its entirety later today (assuming it's down here of course!) - it's not as good sound quality, but the between-songs comments are clearer both on and off-stage.
