what does everyone think about Electronic's 2003 album Twisted Tenderness?

Is it an essential buy?

Nah. Food is an essential buy. Twisted Tenderness is a pile of crap, with a couple of decent songs on it. It might have been slightly before 2003 as well.

TT is a fookin great album and still gets a fair bit of airplay from me. Only one, maybe two poor songs as far as I'm concerned.

Haze is worth the money alone :nod:

Buy it, you know it makes sense:D

i don´t know if it´s worth buying now, as we had Get Ready after it. for me it had more impact than GR. i think it´s an awsome record but as New Order took the same path and developed the guitar-based sound, but with Hooky, Steve and Gillian playing.... you can´t compete to that can you? :shrug:

but if you ask me as a record per se i´d definetely recommend it. i just don´t think anyone could have a major impact now after listening to GR. but it´s worth a listen. ;)

There are some good songs, like Prodigal Son, but Barney sounds like he's trying to be a Backstreet Boy.

Personally speaking, I think it's a really great album that is a good buy for New Order fans. It's miles better than "Raise the pressure" but doesn't quite top the first Electronic record. I've found TT's often luke-warm reviews on NOOL can be a little unfair. Truth is I think alot of NOOLers don't like hearing a New Order member doing their own thing under any circumstances, everything *must* be done as New Order which is probably a contributing factor as to why they did all the "side project" records in the first place. People who simply come out with "side projects are shite" should NOT be listened to at all. I find it hard to believe that out of eight odd albums and countless singles there isn't a single track they couldn't possibly like. There are loads of side project tracks that blow certain New Order songs out of the water, and they know it.

As for TT, standout tracks include Make It Happen, Haze, Vivid, Prodigal Son, and Warning Sign (from the Late At Night CD1) The original promo version of Make It Happen has an Ice-T sample "This Is Not A Pop Album" (removed in the final mix due to copyright issues) and this track most definitely has a "fresh" sound even today. The Darren Price remix of the said track is great as well. (See Late At Night CD1 again) Prodigal Son is a mammoth 7 minute song, employing some great guitar work/arrangements from Marr, and brilliant lyrics from Barney. It puts most of the guitar songs on Get Ready to shame straight away, in fact I prefer TT overall to Get Ready. Indeed, in certain places GR sounds like a less inspired Twisted Tenderness. Plus it does look like Crystal was originally written for TT, as on Vivid CD2 b-side "Radiation", there is a spoken sample buried in the mix just before the drums kick in that says "We're like crystal, we break easy" :nod:

Aside from that, Vivid and Late At Night are a bit derivative but solid enough, Marr's harmonica riff on the former is really Smiths-esque and memorable. I'd recommend you do buy it as it will keep you in fresh New Order related tunes 'til the new NO album comes out.

I played my copy to death in 1999!

I don't really like the album much. I've only once listened to it all the way through and the only tracks that have had regular play are Make It Happen and Twisted Tenderness (the only GREAT tracks on the album) The rest is toss to be honest... :shrug:

I had a listen to it again the other day. I really don't like it as much as the first two Electronic albums. Except for two tracks it sounds like an album of b-sides to me.

Depends how much of a fan you are.

Twisted Tenderness was a nice fix while waiting for the new album, but it's not New Order.

But don't get me wrong, this album has only 2 shit songs if I remember well.. Breakdown and Can't Find My Way Home.

Loved it that much i even bought it on MINIDISC before i owned a MINIDISC player.I agree with a lot that ALLY has said.To me i don't care WHO plays on a record.If i like the tune then i will listen to it.PURE NEW ORDER have been shite at times.But each to their own.TT is my favourite ELECTRONIC album NOW but this could change like my hairstyle.I like to be TRENDY!

its a great album. truth be told, some of barney's best lyrics are on this. Johnny Marr is finally let off the leash so the songs contain more than 4 chords and can contain a number of distinct sections.

Especially listen to Haze, 2nd verse. As Barney starts to sing 'and as i press upon myself a form of torture' you can hear him briefly play as he did in Joy Division.

I think its essentially equal to GR in my opinion...heresy I know...but Marr's guitar is brilliant and Barney's lyrics are at least as good as anything on GR...many of the songs are darker and more creative imho than GR's attempts at pop.

I have to go with what Ally3000 said about this CD.

I think it is the best of the 3 albums by Electronic and second the recommendation to play it to death as something fresh until the next NO lp comes out.

I think Nicos meant how big an Electronic fan....not New Order. It's good to see a wider range of opinions on the album, I wouldn't expect everyone to love it. With the exception of Rocket Mick....is it not just the old people who don't like this album :skeptic: :evil4:

Buy it with an open mind (dont do drugs!) and you will find lots to like in this album. Its not brilliant but it pisses on most of the current albums available in your local HMV

My Favorite cd by far. They actually sound like a band on this cd. Breakdown does suck, I will admit that. Also I'm not a big fan of Prodical son. "Like no other" is the best song they ever made. "When she's gone" rules and Twisted Tenderness is the 2nd best song they ever made. "Make It Happen" one of the best jam songs ever. "Vivid" The 3rd best song they ever made. "Flicker" a true clasic. (Should have been the 3rd single)"Late at night" was a good song, and the single version was much better, but it should have not been a single. And the b-sides were the best b-sides I have ever herd. I just cant say enough about this cd. I love it!

thanks for your opinions. I just went out and got it. Its alright,there are a few gems but the production seems to lacking something. and like some people have said it is vastly superior to most of the crap records that are released.Make it happen is the best track by far and Haze is a close second. It seems like they're trying too hard to sound like the chemical brothers. one things for sure,this album has made me appreciate Get Ready for the masterpiece that it is.

The sound of "TT" definitely had a big influence on the sound of Get Ready.

Um :) first time I've heard "Get Ready" and "masterpiece" in the same sentence. Not that I would call TT a masterpiece, but it's certainly a very good album, and unfortunately for GR lovers it came "before", and is totally superior IMO. It's simply more original, risky, and darker... the only problem is Hooky's bass and Steve's intelligent drumming/programming isn't there.
