Well...Deborah Curtis's book...is it good? Tell me about this book.

"Touching From A Distance: The Stalking Career of Trevor Seigler" is a fine piece of investigative journalism...oh, you mean DEBBIE CURTIS' book. Yeah, it's alright...

It's definitely worth checking out, though I think her conclusion that Ian "planned out" his suicide years in advance seems a little hard to swallow. Overall, a very interesting (if intrusive) portrait of the private life of Ian Curtis....my father

Didn't you used to have a picture in a trenchcoat, Tabsy? Or was that somebody else? Actually, I'm not even sure I know what Ian looked like. Remember, I'm not a JD fan.

I thought it was a fucking great read, started reading it and I couldn't put the bastard thing down - I think I read it in 3 hours..which is fucking amazing cos I hate reading books, some very good stories in it, that I had never heard before...I highly recommend it to everyone :nod:

The time has come for "THE BOOK" (as Debbie Curtis refers to it in TFAD). Wilson gave Paul Morley the nod, but he declined..........

I mean a full 500plus page document spanning the life & times of Joy Division.

Some might say that is a tad ambitious????????? but it CAN/SHOULD/MUST be done!

Yes, it's a pretty good book. Definitely gave me insight on Ian and his life that I could not pick up from the English weeklies that showed up over here in the pre-internet days. I'm sure that it mustn't have been pleasant to be Mrs. Ian Curtis in 1980, but its sobering to sometimes have a reminder about how the expectations of an audience can affect the performer.

Dunno about anyone else, but I started the book as a dead keen fan wanting all the inside info on Ian and JD, but after a while I started thinking that I didn't want to know this much about anyone. Yeah, he was in a fantastic band, but lets face it, he was just a bloke with some problems. CTD :cool:

I seem to remember Debbie receiving some criticism when the book was first published - by all accounts she played a significant part in shaping Ian's state of mind leading up to his final days. His domestic situation was certainly an unsettling factor. And yes, some of her claims seemed a bit rich. But hey, the book needed written, for better or for worse and good luck to her. But I would recommend reading some of the others as well, 'Pleasures and Wayward Distractions', 'Form and Substance' and 'An Ideal For Living' all give good insight. Mix them all together, take a little from each of them and I'm sure something near the truth emerges.
