My dad looked just like George circa 64 in photos of me as little baby. The first song I ever knew/loved was Rocky Racoon and While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of my all time favorite pieces of music. It's sad to see someone die and it particularly stinks when its due to cigarrette smoke. Smoking Kills. George will live forever.

Asian Dub Foundation, Talvin Singh etc...line-up and pay your respect to the person who paved the way for eastern and western music to co-exist.

Oh, that's bloody nice, that is. George was alright. He wrote some absolute classics on the sly, and never appeared such a wanker as Lennon or sonky git like McCartney. And he didn't end up doing a voice for children's TV, so RIP indeed, George. CTD

Nice words Brian.

George was the first Beatle to have a solo No 1 & a great song writer in his own right. Shame his work tended to be overshadowed by L&M. A sound fella & so young.

I lived in Liverpool for 2 years & he is well revered by the locals as a scouser who is still one of them.

I'm always intrigued by how music leaves indellible marks on whole communities & generations. None greater than The Beatles & Elvis. The newspapers in England today are packed with long reviews of George's life - 16 pages in The Sun. Yet the band where he made his name split over 30 years ago.

Last night, a TV reporter in Liverpool described the bands spirit as 'indestructable'. Can't argue with that.

I have to admit, Lennon's always been my favorite, but George just had a the deep humanity of Lennon in a less abrasive shell. I guess a few years from now we will have a Beatles reunion...in the afterlife. George will be missed, and this just reinforces my belief that 2001 is the worst year ever.
