I just listened to the song where Bernard Sumner "is singing" with Gwen Stefani. Am I the only one who CAN`T HEAR HIM AT ALL...

I was "reading" the latest People Mag and it definitely mentioned that one of the standout songs on the album was The Real Thing and that it featured Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook of New Order.

Coincidentally...the very next page reviewed the Killers "hot stuff" and mentioned that the name was taken from New Order's "crystal" video.

I have to agree, Barney does not sing at all on the song. He only plays guitar on it.

She has other guest vocals on the song (I forget their names?) and its not barney.

Hooky's bass is the best part of the song for sure

Overall the song isn't that good. The chourus isn't catchy at all. I really don't think this will be a single. I will never buy the cd. I downloaded the mp3 but thats as far as I'm going with the song.

The slow jam mix is ok, but the lack of the bass really hurts it, since it is the best part of the song.

I haven't seen the credits on the track to actually know who does what, but there is a male backing vocal during the chorus on "don't go away" and "want you to stay." It sounds like Barney's voice to me and unless someone else is given credit in the liner notes, I'd say it's him. If you can't hear it enough to tell there's a male voice mixed low in the chorus then either get your hearing evaluated or get a better playback system. :)

If you ask me this song is total rubbish...can no-one else hear that its just 'bizarre love triangle' rehashed...the sounds are poor when you consider what you can do with a copy of Reason and a computer these days. Hope the new album is dirty and rocky and nothing like this!

I think I hear him during the second "My love" in the chorus, but it's so low in the mix

Barney or not, this is single-worthy in the States (not the greatest, but New Order exposure would def. set in motion a chain of events to bring em back here).

If I appeared on a Gwen Stefani album I'd keep it quiet.:D

That's definitely him singing the backing vocals during "Don't go away" and "I want you to stay". I didn't hear him the first time, but if you listen very carefully, his voice is actually quite up front in the mix, it's just double-tracked so closely with Gwen's voice, same inflection and everything, that it almost disappears.

And come on, it's not that bad a track. There rest of the album I quite enjoy, especially the two Andre 3000 collaborations. But, that's for another forum.

Yeah...newbie here. Please be kind! I've just started getting into New Order and still don't know too much about the band, other than I definitely like what I hear. I only own three albums (Get Ready, Substance, and Low Life), but I'll get the rest after this whole Christmas thing dies down.

I look forward to posting!

Gwen Stefani is ugly and she has no talent her husband is shit as well i heard the song in a shop after i had my tooth pulled out and pefered to have another one pulled out than to listen to that shite again then i got home and my girlfriend was listening to it i will see say that hookys bass is weak and i cant here barnys vocals anywhere

I just got it and I like it. Could almost be an Order song, just boost Barney and make Gwen the backup singer.

Very much like the Order from 87-93 or could easily have been from an Other Two CD. Would storm up the charts if released as a single.

It's prety obvious where they got their information, except for the last paragraph - did NO record here in Ireland? If I had known I would have stalked them (on behalf of NOOL'ers everywhere)!

Flame me if you want, but the music sounds more like New Order than half the stuff on GetReady.

I'm not sure what the music in Heaven sounds like, but I bet it's an awful lot like Hooky's bass.

Good review of Gwen's album, and some nice things to say about the Order, from the finicky Village Voice this week.

The Hooper-produced "The Real Thing" not only screams out New Order in the best possible way, but features half of the group....
