Originally posted by Shakin' Baker How about Johnny Marr and Pottsy go form their own band?I have a question: I have b-sides of Electronic & Monaco I got off of napster way back when and have one song which I don't know is by which artist: it's 6:18 long, no words, and samples the bass riff from Everything's Gone Green. I'd guess it's by Electronic b/c of the style of the guitars, but I suspect Barney wouldn't sample Hooky in his side project and it could very well be Monaco. Anyone know which band and name of the tune? Thanks
Yeah it is Monaco and it's a track called "Shattered" from CD 2 of the Sweet lips CD Single.
A bit of background on the song: it was mostly knocked up by Pottsy alone and he told me when creating it he needed a bit of Hooky bass to finish it off as a true "Monaco" creation. So rather than get the Hookster to create a new riff, he simply sampled E.G.G. (very briefly) to fit in with a drumbeat and the rest is history. Personally I think it's a pretty good track simply for the fact it sounds genuinely "different", experimental, and nothing like New Order. Alot of boring New Order fans trundled out the old "Monaco ripping off New Order" argument when they heard the sample, which is still ridiculous when you think about it as it's just as absurd as Bernard Sumner from New Order accusing Bernard Sumner from Electronic of ripping off his vocal style.
Great track though, and along with Ultra were two of the best b-sides from any side project period.
