New Order live in Melbourne

Just heard from a friend that New Order will be playing the Metro in Melbourne on 30 January and tickets go on sale in a week. I'm confirming the source of this info - has anyone else heard this?

New Order to play headline Australian gigs

New Order have announced details of two headlining Australian gigs in the New Year.

They will play the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on January 23, and the Metro in Melbourne on January 30.

Tickets go on sale on December 10.

New Order are also performing on the Big Day Out touring festival which will visit six venues in New Zealand and Australia, starting in Auckland on January 18, NewOrderOnline.com reports.

The festival line-up also includes The White Stripes, Faithless, Prodigy and Garbage.

There will also be Big Day Out events in the Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Is it really worth it? I mean, i am going all the way from France to Melbourne and already bought my ticket for the BDO then I was wondering... Is it worth staying in melbourne for 2 more days? is the Metro a good concert hall? The Lonely Planet Travel Book describes it as a huge place. Is it really? Do you think they will only play like for an hour in the BDO (because they are part of a festival) and they will play longer for this cocnert????!!!!

Francois, you will be seeing exactly the same show but 2 days later if you stay. You may get treated to a noisy, fucked up Rock the Shack or a Ruined in A Day with malfunctioning synths for your trouble. Is it worth the extra money to relive an experience you just had? Maybe, it is NewORder after all but what you gain may not exceed what you lose (MONEY).

The Metro is actually a club size venue and not a concert hall. The advantages are that you can really get up close to the band, however it has a funny layout with only a small dancefloor area in front of the stage and then a bar smack bang in the middle. People stand to the side or behind the bar, then there are also stairs and a landing area on either side of the dancefloor and also a few upstairs areas at the back with about 3 different levels. I've seen Chemical Brothers, Placebo and Regurgitator there and they have all been good concerts. Because of the small size, I would reckon that tickets will be sold out within an hour or two on Monday. I'm buying my ticket in person at a Ticketmaster outlet, because last year when The Cure came out, the telephones were engaged for hours and the internet site crashed, so I was left high and dry and got a really bad seat in the end. As for staying a day or two extra in Melbourne, there is a lot to see and do and it will be summer and there are many, many beautiful girls here. Promise.

Yeah. I guess I will try to get a ticket. And if i dont get one... Well, it would not matter that much. After Lyon nearly 13 years ago and Paris, it will be just the 4th i will see them. Anyway, those concerts will just be a part of a 3 months holiday in Australia. I just hope they are not gonna play the same set they did in Paris and during their whole european tour... Maybe they will try "Someone Like You" (as it is their next single) or even "Here to Stay"... Anyway, thanks to the 2 of u for the advices, guys!!!

I'm back Depthcharge. I've been on holidays for two weeks up the NSW north coast. I actually heard NO were playing two private shows on JJJ on the way up. I'll be there for sure.

Just a thought ......... If New Order are playing Melbourne wouldn't it be ideal if they were supported by the mighty AVALANCHES.? Then perhaps the latter bunch could show the Order up to be the inept buffons they really are live and proceed to blow old four-chinned Piggy Boy and his grunty-faced superannuated cronies off stage simply by virtue of playing their delightfully mind-blowing set of Sampladelic a- scratch'n'mix-hip-hop- future-funk-eclectica-lounge-boogie tunes......

Ah well....... s'pose we can all dream, can't we?.......

i must admit in the 3 times ive seen the Avalanchers they were good, even though their record is poor to say the least.

I wonder if the John Butler Trio will be the support act seeing their bassist is massive JD and Hooky fan.
