Flooding the P2P networks with bogus tracks

I remember this being mentioned before somewhere. What do you think of the idea of renaming some shared files in P2P applications to create bogus new New Order tracks? This is an attempt to cause so much frustration that many people will give up trying downloding them and then will have to buy the records instead. I remember that Warner had hired a third-party company to flood the P2P networks with spoofed files of Madonna's "American Life", but it's doubtful they'll do the same with New Order.

I think I'll rename O-Zone's "Dragostea Din Tei" as "New Order - Krafty (Radio Edit)".

I'm all for it...

Protecting New Order's legacy has always been one of my concerns, if we want another album after this one, we must pray for good sale figures....

doing the labels' work for them, I'm sure they'll be pleased they don't have to bother.

Ha ha, so many people have downloaded 'Krafty (single edit) from me, just to discover they have Skullcrusher!

I should find a Bush speech clip, shorten it to 4 minutes or so, and put it onto an FTP as 'Krafty;

Am I the only one thinking you're all absolute cunters for doing this?

New Order fans conning other New Order fans into thinking they're downloading new tracks.

Call me a miserable old fcuker, but I fail to see the humour in this.

Tsk! :nono:

I am innocent fer a change:D

No doubt if the song is played in the next few days, someone will put it up. I just hope it doesn't stop people buying the record, we know that us lot will buy it, but it's the "floating" fans that may not.

I agree with you, I think they gone mad !

anyway It's probably easy to find some softwares to stream on P2P and stop downloading after listening 3".

No, you're not alone. Mind you, P2P users looking to steal a march on the recorded product are asking for it in my book.

Have to disagree with you there, old chap. I'm gagging for new New Order stuff to appear on the P2P networks before the recorded product hits our shelves. Who here didn't own Get Ready before it the shops in 2001? Crystal and 60mph were doing the rounds a good six months beforehand. I've just reviewed Push the Button on the off-topic forum but doesn't mean to say I'm gonna part with me hard-earned cash when it hit the shops next week.

Agreed - there's a whiff of arrogance about this. I trust all the perpetrators will wait patiently for the single to turn up at their local? Like hell they will.

And yes, Spotnick, I know you're one of them doing this on WinMX - with 586 from Community! :skeptic: If you'd used my version of Elegia, I wouldn't have minded.. CTB :bear:

I didn't have a copy - mind you, New Order weren't that high on my list of priorities at that stage, the self-imposed embargo was still in force. I didn't even hear Crystal or 60mph until I bought Get Ready.

I'm quite happy to wait til it hits the shelves. The only tracks I heard pre Get Ready were the songs played at the Olympia and I heard Crystal the previous week to that.

Always preferred to hear the songs live first then the studio output. Gmex 88 aired three songs which made for great anticipation in the January.

Actually, I launched the idea of posting bogus tracks because I was pissed when trying to find Keane's Somewhere Only We Know on WinMX and say 1000 fakes that I could never connect to ;) But I didn't post any fakes yet, I can't let my P2P software opened all the time, my IP phone loses quality when I do so (!)

But I believe that a genuine New Order fan can find the real thing easily... like we all know promos will only be out next week, so why hurry! and that is the single, not the album! I expect the promo album to be ready in february, although the could release it without the artwork.

I forgot to state... when Sebastien told in another message he never uses his NewOrderOnline mail, and that the mailbox was full, I went there to clean it up.

When he posted that he had Krafty, I believe he got 20 mails from people begging for it....

Some people are just looking to get fakes!

And why exactly is that? Because they are lame enough not to be among the privileged few who get sent record company promos (or buy them off ebay at grossly inflated prices, NONE of the profits of which go to the artists)?

Don't you all think it's poor form to prank those New Order fans who want to hear new material as soon as possible, but aren't lucky enough to have access to it?

The theory of downloads killing sales in this case is not an issue - I doubt many NO fans will say "why would I buy the single and it's immaculate Saville-designed packaging when I can enjoy a 5th-rate 10kb/s mp3 that I greedily downloaded for nothing?"

Just a thought... CTB :bear:

Don't shoot me! Even though I got a Get Ready promo, I still bought the domestic release!! (same as I'll do this time)

What I meant is that we all know it's NOT available yet, and I'm quite sure the same source that leaked Crystal/60MAH the last time earned his lesson...

When I'll get the promo, I'll be first in line to put 30 secs clips online, that's for sure... (those are legal)

But my point was, if you read around, you know nothing will be available before the 24th.. on the 24th, I'll be the first in line to ask someone a mp3 of Krafty from the radio....

Since when do I send MP3s through e-mails ?????????

Some people on this board have weird expectations... :confused2:

Did these smartarses just sign up to a P2P network for sake of this prank?

it's pretty pointless putting up loads of fakes...all it's going to do is piss off genuine New Order fans...most of whom are gonna buy the record anyway. If the release of Crystal is anything to go by, as soon as a genuine link appears to a download it's gonna be posted up here in any case...
