There’s more news about the album on Channel 4 Teletext page 351. The writer says it’s an album of the year contender with 9 of the 11 songs potential singles. It’s dancier than “Get Ready” with unusually sweet vocals by Barney, notably on Sirens and post-club comedown tale Road to Ruin. It also mentions Jetstream (with Scissor Sisters Ana matronic on vocals), saying it has a nursery rhyme chorus while the final track Working Overtime sees New Order go glam rock to astonishing effect.

All of a sudden, March 28 seems light years away.

It also mentioned that the second single (the title track)will be released to co-incide with summer feestival appearances and an April tour will soon be revealed.

I'm positively drooling at the prospect of the album being on a par with Technique. Even if it's in roughly the same post code as Technique then i'll be a happy chappy.

All these great things we've heard so far better be true or else I'll be devastated.

Well, I'm not getting too excited just yet. Did anyone really expect any negative comments to come out of this first airing of the album? Every new record of bands that release discs intermittently, these days, is greeted with huge accolades , and the record is always said to be their best effort in years... Judging from all the press & fans hoopla last year, you'd never know that Morrissey's last album is as dull and predictable as it really is.

That one word, 'mellow', immediately called to mind Vietnam, and that is not such a good thing. And the closing track... is it a throwback to the Stooges, or is it glamrock?

i just can't wait.... I've been fired, not sure when I have got to leave just yet... but this has certainaly brightend up the future. :)

you're not alone Spotnick. i actually love "Get Ready" in its entirety.

Exactly... Get Ready was a great album!

I totally dig electronic music, but hey, If you're not a hundred 100% up-to-date in Dance music you sound out of date as hell... (remember the two last Electronic albums!) We don't want that from our electronic music pioneers, do we?!

Nic to me downloading the album would spoil the surprise. Imagine pre-ordering the cd and one it shows up in your mailbox. Put in the stereo and enjoy! Downloading is not the same.

Got to disagree about Get Ready - it's actually one of the only NO records that I can listen to without skipping tracks and won't date half as badly as stuff like Brotherhood and Low Life.

Roll on march 28th though - Barney and Anna, the new Elton John and Kiki Dee.

If i cared about lyrics i never would have been a NO fan! I like slow jam & RTS - in fact the only track on GR i would get rid of is 'turn my way' and even that i like sometimes.

I wouldn't get rid of a single GR track - in fact, the only thing I would dump off it is Billy flamin' Corgan! As for the new album, I'm well excited about it now; roll on March! :D

i thought billy corgan on "turn my way" sounded alright. i can't imagine the song without him on there. this is coming from a minor smashing pumpkins fan, though.

No, you're not alone. It's a very decent song (not like Rock the Shack). I even like it better than Turn my Way or 60MPH.

This'll be the first new album I come to as a fan.

I don't think I'll be able to stop myself from downloading it if it leaks, I told myself i wouldn't get the new Manics album til it was in the shops, soon as it leaked it was on my hard drive

well as ive heard this from two people that arent music journalists then, yes, i don't, don't, don't believe its hype.

All you Septics' best bet is to all hold hands together and pray that they do Coachella. Pray hard enough and buy ten copies of each of their back catalogue records, and you never know. Can't see them doing a full tour, hitching onto someone else's set-up and promotion is a more sensible way of doing this.

Are there any other US festivals this summer?

The only problem with Coachella is that it's fucking hot there in May. I wouldn't be suprised to see it be 38 degrees Celsius or more.

What's Essicks like these days? I went there at the end of the 80's. Good time to be a stowdent then though, not sure with today's cutbacks. Still see all the lads today that I used to sit in the Union Bar with each and every night.

It's pretty chavvy really, plenty of squaddies hanging around (we tend to avoid them!). There wasn't a great deal of indie/alternative stuff around until me and my friends decided to do our own club nights and gigs, so music wise it's much better than it was! British Sea Power are playing our uni in a few weeks, which i'm pretty excited about.
