Anyone Planning a Tour with the Tour?

So we can (hopefully) assume that New Order will be doing some dates this summer, and there are some fairly hardcore fans around these parts.

Im saving the coppers to go see them tour in the summer. Ideally, it would involve a bit of euro travel, and at least 4 gigs (Im not quite ATR). Obviously, in the absence of any confirmed dates, its hard to say when, but I am quite looking foward to it - enough to make me study in january for exams in may (so I wont have to repeat)

Being one of a handful of fans in Ireland, I expect they will play here supporting some bigger band, or a 50 minute set as part of some cynical beyond belief festival.

Are any other nool members considering a trek to coincide with the tour, or Has anyone else done this before? If so, some (premature) tips, and shared memories would be nice.

I will be doing every conceivable date. Owe it to myself.

I did the 1984 summer tour, great fun that was as a foolhardy youth, it's hotels all the way nowadays though!

I really am excited, and this is just january! Jesus, that is somehow depraved.

I only gor into them just before "get ready", and havent really gotten into any other bands since. I like a bit of house, etc, but there was a time when I knew every heap o'shit band in Ireland and the UK. I fear heading along to my first NewOrder gig and then get "sucked in", or maybe I dont fear it at all. There is something about those tunes.

If you followed them back in the 80s, it would be somehow normal, but getting into them in 2001 at the age of 18 is a bit strange.

I do hope to catch as many gigs as I can this year. Seeing NewOrder in Paris, Barcelona or Rome would be as good as it gets, I hope.

Here is a question for anyonw who whould know,(esp the likes of Al Jarvis, or those who have done it before) Would it be better to try and travel from gig to gig, or would the gigs probably be too infrequent to merit that, is it better to stay home (in Dublin) for the summer, get a shitty summer job, and Ryanair it to whatever city the group are playing? Im pretty skint, but where theres a will theres a way.

I will do all the British dates , as will about 20 or 30 others

Will try to do as many dates as I can get away with!! Only managed 7 gigs in the 2001/02 period. Did all 4 in 98, three in 93... 1 in 89... Just hope they don't play the big venues.

Not easy to answer as twenty years ago we may not have had transport, were too drunk to drive, were prepared to doss overnight in train/bus stations now its 5 star hotels and driving can wait till the morning.

In addition it depends on how far apart they are both time-wise and distance, though they are unlikely to do many consecutive nights in different towns these days, I would imagine consecutive nights will be at the same venue So if you can find somewhere to doss or a cheap hotel you could get a few dates in on the one trip. If you can get the tickets.

I'm pleased they've chosen April, Easter holidays fingers crossed, that will allow some travelling. Hope they don't do Dublin though, '93 was a laugh but it was shite.

This set of dates will be the first I'll have attended since joining this nool lark , I've met a few nools already at non order things , some I met up with again at the Pogues and again it was good craic , so in that respect this year'll be a bit different , clearly some fuckin landlords are in for a bumper payday , once various people meet up , none of the lads I do the gigs with visit the site and post , but they're always up for a laugh and comparin tales of general madness , I feel that it's gonna be hard to get oneself heard over the drunken banter , be an eclectic bunch for sure ..... and I cant feckin wait

The way I'm looking at it is that it may be the last chance to do some of the shows I've never really thought feasible to get to, such as the US and the European Festivals. I've got the holiday available, and have sorted the money out, all we need now are the dates being announced!

Getting some kind of stack dump ASP.net error coming up, hence the triple post.

Mind you, I hope there aren't too many Euro or US gigs, there is a limit to the budget!

If they happen, I'll do what I did in 1989 & 1993: 2 California gigs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think the only realistic option (barring a lottery win) is the stay at home and fly to selected concerts.

Doubtless, Ill be asking many and varied stupid questions over the next few months.

Was chatting to a lad last night who was at the fuji rock festival. Sounds fantastic, €1500 flights & €300 tickets apart.

I did every date on the 'tour' of Summer 2002 - Paris, then Finsbury, then the Hultsfred Festival, then two German Festivals, then the RHCP support in Dublin, then Roskilde, then Mancland. You just get drawn into it. The logistics of Hultsfred seemed ridiculous - the festival itself was a 3 or 4hr drive from Skavsta airport, but then ATR phones you up and says you can get a flight out of Stansted at 7am on Saturday morning for nine quid, and he'll get you VIP backstage passes if you can make it, and you just kinda agree. Biggest nightmare was the German gigs. Two gigs, 500 miles apart in 24hrs, and I just remember stood outside a niteclub at 4am after the first DRENCHED through cos it was p!ssing down, desperately trying to get a cab back to our hotel, which was a further 20km away. Nightmare. Ah, memories.

Stay at home and get a job, unless you're minted and can afford to swan around Europe from week to week!!!

It's 'needs must' and all that really. I'm limited on hols, so adopt hit-and-run tactics to go see New Order! Last Roskilde gig I flew out at 8am on the Saturday morning, caught New Order on Saturday night, then flew back Sunday night - had to get a late flight really cos there was a little matter of watching the World Cup Final in the afternoon first. I did Roskilde in 93 as well and flew out on the Saturday morning again but slept in a field that night (long story, which I still use against a certain Gary Edwards to this day) then flew straight back first thing Sunday morning. I was on the same trip to Lorelei in 93 as Mr Thomas and they shoved us straight back on a coach to Blighty within an hour of New Order closing. About a dozen of us booked an extra day in Sweden in 2002 though, and came back the Monday instead. We stopped in some town (forget the name) which the Lonely Planet described as the 'Manchester' of Sweden. Not sure if that's a selling point, or not? Even for the Area:One stuff we hit San Fransisco the day before the first gig, and left LA the day after the last gig. Only place I've lingered is Oz, but then I was hardly likely to nip back to Crew Shone between gigs, obviously!

I've told my wife we are going. I unlike most of you great peeps have never been to a NO show

I told her its the last band I gotta see before I croak. I've seen all my favorite bands and NO is the last on my list. Watching the DVD's is not the same.

If we travel to the Europe, we can have a drink and TOast NO because they rule all!!!

Well, I'm going to attempt to do as many as possible this time round, simply because there might not be another time to do this.

Last time I only managed the 3 consecutive Brixton gigs and Finsbury Park - must try harder this time!!

Hopefully they'll be playing an up and coming Manc 'festival' at the end of May (fingers crossed), as a couple of other bands I like are also playing it! ;)

All in all, it depends on finances and holiday, although there have been some gigs where I've flown back from far gone places bright and early on a Monday morning straight into work!
