There's no problem with newbies, everyone is welcome (apart from Julio). Sometimes it might be more appropriate if people did lurk for a while and get a feel for what is going down, rather than diving straight in with the US Tour question ;)

Not really wishing to give Julio any air time, but I totally agree. Being a gobshite without the faintest clue of when to shut up is one thing. Not knowing very much about New Order is fine. However, the hate mail is harder to forgive and as for the stunt he pulled with "Community", well that deserved a lifetime ban on it's own. He surely wouldn't have the nerve to show his face again...

Ally, there is no discrimination against anyone with a low post count, anyone who has been here 5 minutes or anyone who just wants to quote Depeche Mode lyrics (well maybe the latter :)) - far from it. Yes we were all newbies, as we have all been at varying stages on different boards as well no doubt. It doesn't take a lot of grey matter though to have a little look at what is currently happening on the board though, 90% of first-time posts are either a repeat of something six inches further down the board (as most newbies tend to arrive when there is some event on the horizon), or are the now-traditional US tour dates question, which should maybe be added as a sticky at the top of the page. In the vast majority of cases, the question need not even be asked as the answer is already readily available with just a few seconds of reading what is in place. Maybe if the FAQ were linked from the top page of the message board rather than the main navigation, and if it were updated more regularly, then the problem could be halved almost instantly.

At the end of the day we are all here because we love this band (apart from those chancers who pop up masquerading as fans to get some info to embellish their E-bay rip off scams).

NEWBIES rule, yes I too asked the same old question. But c'mon you NO veterans love to answer/make fun of people that ask the age old touring question. We should all be happy people love and admire the NO/Joy Division sound. I'm still a newbie and learning everyday. I love the vinyl.

I'm not a newbie--I mostly read and post occassionally. But I do have to say that even people who have been here for a while sometimes post the most inane things--a high post count doesn't mean anything except maybe you're a little too obsessive and perhaps need serious therapy. It goes both ways, really.

No, a high post count isn't a sign of obsession or a need for serious therapy, you cheeky cnut. It is a sign of being able to interact with the community we have here, being able to share information, anecdotes, live recordings, and above all actually trying to enrich the New Order lives of those who post here with shared experience etc. Yes, some of those who post here do occasionally post a load of shite, and I am quite proud of some of the shite I have posted. One person's shite is another's inspiration. Love you really though Ecker, I'm just having a laff, as they say on't West Coast.

Well, since it's a newbie thread, thought it might be a good place to post your first post...

Been lurking for a while now and already this board has been a revelation. Great seeing so many like-minded people, especially as there aren't that many around where I come from.

It took me 22 years to discover New Order (thanks to the bleak musical climate of Finland) but it was worth the wait and we've lived together happily ever after. High point of my obsession so far has been the Rob Gretton memorial last May - I was there and probably chatted with quite a few people from this board as well, though was a bit too pissed to remember much about the discussions. I'm definitely hitting UK again for the gigs this year.

Sorry, no dumb questions right now, but you can attempt to make fun of me anyhow, c'mon give it a go!

Well there are newbies and newbies. I myself am still quite new well not even 2 years, but that is only as a member of NOOL. I have been a long time fan though.

So, there are newbies, who are fans and know about their history.

And there are newbies who have only just heard the new single, just wait until it is officially released, and will say it is quite nice, but the Cure is better, and why doesn' it sound like Blue Monday?

what qualifies as a newbie? what defines a lurker?

thought I'd use this thread to mark up my own personal milestone. it's a year today that I became a member - having lurked for about a year previously. this site has been something of a crutch, a daily recourse and left to my own devices it would be an hourly guilty pleasure. even if at times it ran the risk of being boring I was never being bored - it was always worth seeing through the fallow times as there'd be a tickle of info, a tidbit of gossip, the static of a row or the whiff of a social around the corner.

I've never looked at certain people I know's post count and thought "why can't I be you" - but I've been aware that as a casual lurker I've taken more from this site than I could ever give back. perhaps whatever I do it's never enough - I'm still a newbie and always will be...

not sure if this will get the balance right between logons and input but now my post count has reached double figures I feel a new chapter opening up! although these things take time, hopefully I'll hit 3 figures before my 2nd anniversary....I know it's gonna happen someday it's just a question of time

hopefully the bandwidth will take it...
