Just came up with this one. Not sure whether to go in chronolological order or mix it up. Joy Division and New Order don't always go together but I feel this represents a smooth overview of their distinctive sounds, even if I have (purposely) left out the classics.

Digital 2.50 Disorder 3.28 From safety to where? 2.26 New Dawn Fades 4.45 Age of Consent 5.13 Bizarre Love Triangle 3.54 Dream Attack 5.13 Everything’s gone green 5.30 Round & Round 4.29 Leave me alone 4.38 Love Less 2.58 Primitive Notion 5.43 Regret 4.08 Sunrise 5.58 True Faith 5.34 Someone Like You 5.42

Let me know what you think and post your own personal playlists.

These days I just load the cd player with 5 cds, usually live, and put it on random, and let myself be surprised. This usually works fine, except when I get In a Lonely Place 3 times in row.

Hehe

the thing about NewOrder live is that there are a core of songs that were played all too often (Ceremony, Temptation, Confusion, Blue Monday) which, great as they are, get a wee bit montonous after a while. What I think the playlist above offers are some of the lesser played yet still magnificent songs from Joy Division and NewOrder. Only problem I have is whether to go chronological, random, or personally decide which songs go where.

I'm a little fuzzy with the Joy Division stuff, but otherwise i think this is about perfect. I wouldn't be able to make a playlist of theirs without Dream Attack, Loveless, Leave Me Alone, or Sunrise. I think Primitive Notion and Someone Like You are the gems on Get Ready (beside Crystal). EGG has become one of my favorites recently. Others I would consider would be Your Silent Face, Run, Times Change and Special. For me, Round and Round has to be the Best Of version. I like the original, but the remix makes it one of my favorite NO tracks.

I'm actually putting together a cd for a friend who is an Interpol and Killers fan. I told her i need to make her a JD/NO cd. Maybe I'll use this list:)

Yeah perhaps the Joy Division stuff is a bit out of place, although I like having From safety to where? on there.

Embarassingly enough I don't own a copy of Republic so don't know about Special or Times Change. I was thinking about Your Silent Face but I have been listening to live versions quite a bit lately and wanted a bit of variety (though I only had 2 mins left on my blank cd with the list above anyway). Ceremony and Dreams Never End were also considered.

I myself am making a compilation for a friend who likes 80s music and loves JD but hasnt made the connection with NO yet. Might burn him a copy.

funny this came up. i've been listening to the following playlist on my ipod in this order:

60 mph thieves like us your silent face (the in sessions version) chosen time regret (new order mix) elegia (low life version) age of consent everyone everywhere lonesome tonight perfect kiss (substance version) dream attack

i'm deliberately trying to avoid the "best of" type-of listening but looking out for the classics at the same time.
