Watched NO many times over the years, why is it ive never heard them play 'thieves like us' live. Fantastic track, bet it sounds great live.

It'll be quite a few more than 59 times - the stats don't quite add up. Several gigs are missing set info, and the database doesn't like every song!
Nice to know it premiered in my home town (well, 20 miles north of it anyway). Amazing :). I hate that they retired so many of those classics :).
They used to say that they were reluctant to play it live as the mix was so dense that they had trouble seperating all the layers live. I've seen them live about eight times in all and they've never played it on any of those occasions...which is a shame as it's a stunning song!
Less people smoke these days, so not everyone has a lighter to thrust into the air to accompany this one. Thieves Like Us has suffered as a result due to audience participation. Them's the facts.
Always thought that this song never came across very well on the live circuit.
Its a swirling hypnotic song....but i cant remember a very good live version
I liked that sequencer line it used to have over the top when they did it live, shame that didn't make it onto the final recording.

I preferred the early 84 version that went on for about 6 minutes - the work in progress 12 min version was too long, and the 1986 three minute whizthrough didn't really do the song justice. I'd love to see it back.
Yeah, seems like they havnt played it live that much in the UK. Great track though. Loved the flip side aswell Lonsome Tonight, fantastic B side. Bernard was definitly at his melancholy best during that period.
