Third and last in a series of three, a poll about the presence of Joy Division songs in the set. Tell it how it is.

I'd say not more than 1-2 JD songs at any gig

This does NOT include Ceremony

Yeah, it's been great to hear those songs live, but I think they should drop them all bar maybe one as a nod to their past.

I think that particular ghost has been well and truly exorcised now.

NO NO NO NO NO! For the 2nd time in two days, i agree with jarvo. *maybe* keep transmission in the set. And ceremony. Nothing else i'd say. Then again, depends on the venue.

I dont reckon they should play any stuff played on the last tour, apart from transmission. If the set goes along what we've hear about WFSC, and its synth led sound, maybe decades would be the best.

Do 2 or 3 , but NEW ones pls. Maybe keep Transmission, and let's hear a 2005 crack at The Only Mistake (I can just hear a nice sequencer line bubbling along with that) and New Dawn Fades.

My two penn'orth on this one:

keep LWTUA and Transmission, adding Decades and Something Must Break (would be excellent for them to do!), and to rotate which they play, only doing two maximum per show. The rest should be gracefully retired, they've made their point now. LWTUA is a given, what with the Brits awards and all that. Transmission is a given because they have enhanced it.

Considering they never played These Days, even as JD, and that's a choice for the movie title, plus (I think) it fits Barney's voice and style, that could be an option, couldn't?

They played These Days quite a lot as JD - not heard Paradiso, Cologne or the Lyceum?

Anyway, they kept the These Days drum pattern and used it as Chosen Time.

I'd seriously dread that - it was never really a song that lent itself to live performance, and I shudder to think of Barney straining against the "it was meeeeeeee" bit!! Joy Division often seemed to rush the song live - I hate to think how it would sound if not given the reverence the writing and arrangement needs.

Would really enjoy hearing Barney have a crack at Disorder - it's one of the more uplifting JD songs, and Barney's voice wouldn't sound out of place on it. Granted it's not an obvious JD choon to play, but then again what about Digital, Isolation and Heart & Soul?!

I think they should definitely be given a rest, besides they have such a massive collection of their own gems, I'd rather hear an extra new order track than a lame rehash of a JD one (correct me if they sound amazing live).

Another problem is that part of the early thrill of hearing the JD songs must have been the surprise factor (maybe part of the reason that the hardcore on here wax lyrical about the time they played Decades - the only time..). I found this mp3 on t'intnernet from 1983, where they play LWTUA. You can just hear the surprise in the crowd, not really realising/believing it until that synth line kicks in. If anyone wonders which one I mean, the 1st repeat of the synth is severely messed up, and at the end Hooky shouts "Happy Birthday Rob!" A rest would mean that if they were done again occasionally, you'd get that rush back.

Anything that makes the setlist less predictable should be done. Well not anything.... ;)

You've got it in one! That was such an amazing rush at the start of that song - they'd always said they weren't going to do any JD stuff, and we had no reason to disbelieve them. Then that familiar riff opened proceedings at the Tower Ballroom, and it was just the most amazing feeling. I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it now, and it was nearly 22 years ago! Decades at RFH was similar, so was She's Lost Control at Slough. Atmosphere wasn't quite the same though.

Disorder they should try, Warsaw would be funny, I dunno...Keep Atmosphere,Transmission, and LWTUA...and where good

They have every right to play JD songs, but frankly I would prefer if they stick to just NO songs.

Transmission is great but how about WARSAW and FAILURES? That would bring the house down. Encore performance. Could you imagine leaving a show after hearing those two songs live?

Monaco used to knock out "Failures" at the end of their '97 gigs. It was a fucking racket.

I'd like it if they were different songs than we're used to (non-Atmosphere, LWTUA, Isolation, etc) and if Barney can muster up enough respect to refrain from yelping and jumping up and down on one leg, and if Steve and Hooky pull up some of that energy from 25 years ago that made the songs so goddamn powerful!

I just don't like how Barney sings the songs and sometimes the more current Isolaiton gets on my nerves. If New Order can barely play their own songs how do you expect them to properly play a JD tune? :p

Definitely not, there are so many old New Order songs that I'd love to hear live again instead!

I think Barney could pull it off!!! To hear Warsaw really fast and loud, live would kick ass

LWTUA can stay, but the rest are optional. I'd like to hear SLC and Transmission and Atmosphere, but it's not required. That said, it would be interesting for them to dig into some more obscure JD stuff that they haven't played since 1980 except on rare occasions. At least if they aren't playing their New Order back catalogue, they can at least give us some Joy Division.

just a few. i may have only seen them twice (so far!), but when i did it was nice to hear a couple of JD songs. however, i did go to see NEW ORDER, after all! they have plenty of songs in their repertoire and they needn't ever become a tribute band of their former incarnation.

Let Hooky take a shot at Means to An End! Decades, LWTUA, Transmission, Atmosphere and Shadow Play. But not all on the same night unless they are going to play for 2 hours.

Frankly, I wanna hear Denial, Procession, Hurt, Leave me Alone, Lonesome Tonight, The Village, EGG, Sunrise, TPK, AIIWIW, Sooner Than you Think, Broken promise.....ect ect and Primative Notion.

The JD songs don't bother me - I actually like their take on Isolation better than the JD version - but if they can play New Order songs instead, I'd go for the latter.

'Maybe as an occasional treat' because less is more, or so they say. I would keep Transmission though as I think that's one of the JD songs that probably suits Barney's voice most in my opinion.

I think I would savour them more, if they were an occasional treat rather than the norm.

They've got such a brilliant back catalogue, I really wish they would vary things more anyway. Having said that, i'll still be a happy girl if I get to see them live, regardless of what they play :)

If New Order can barely play their own songs how do you expect them to properly play a JD tune? :p Who played guitar,bass,and drums in Joy Division then? I'm happy for them to play whatever they feel like.
