Can anyone explain to me the lyrics for 1963. Is is about JFK and Marilyn Monroe? or am I way off the mark. My mates reckon its about a gay love affair. Love to know

Written from the perspective of Jackie, as JFK plans to have her killed, so he can head off with Monroe. Comes from a conspiracy theory that Jackie was in fact the real target of the assination that killed JFK.

you actually figured out the JFK/Monroe connection on your own?? you must be good, the only real clue is the year. 
the song is so emotional... maybe Barney is expressing hurt from a father figure but has to disguise it with this bizarre JFK fantasy.... Barney is weird, even read straight up as the JFK theme it is still bizarre! i guess the gun/ penis metaphor works no matter how you look at it...

Ha, I never got the gun-penis metaphor. It probably isnt about JFK at all, but that doesnt matter, the lyrics fit the song very very well, which isnt always the case with our favourite band. In my opinion, this and TPK and True faith are New Order at their poppy best. The Baker Mix on Retro is also fantastic.
