most of their live music is preprogrammed... maybe they can just play the CD version of True faith from Substance while Barney painfully dances and whoops
No seriously, I'd really like for them to play the original True Faith. It's such a shame to hear this great song ruined by the Perfecto Mix. THE ORIGINAL TRUE FAITH MUST BE PLAYED THIS YEAR, PLEASE!!!
The song has such a great emotion to it, it really does make you feel "extraordinary" when listening to it. But when the Perfecto Mix beats, and f***ed up synth kick in, it totally ruins what makes True Faith such a great song.
Actually thinking about it, why did the band feel the did to change this classic? Maybe because the original was sounding old? Or maybe the original wasn't sounding too great live? Surely, if they play the original True Faith this time around the crowd will go totally mental loving every minute of it, it's got be played!!!!
I remember watching the 511 DVD for the first time and the next song was True Faith, then all of a sudden there's this synth "bub bub bub, bub bub bub" I'm like WHAT!? This isn't True Faith. It really would be dissapointing if they played the Perfecto Mix again.

Must say I totally disagree here. The Perfecto update of True Faith surpasses the original in terms of live performances I've always found. However, on record I would probably prefer the original '87 version. Live-wise, by the Electronic Ecstasy '93 bootleg you could just tell the original mix (or at least the way they performed it) was ageing quite badly. Just listen to the drums on that boot; they clatter to life and the whole thing seems a bit chugging. It's not just the fact the overall '87 arrangement had aged anyway by 1993, but the differing drum samples they were using live at that time had little in common with the studio version so it sounded even more disjointed IMO.
For me, the Perfecto update was one of the highlights of the 1998 Peel Session and ensuing gigs, along with the reworkings of Isolation and Touched. I thought it was a great idea, rather than trundle out the same old arrangements, try and breath new life into old songs. I suppose it depends on whether you like the original Perfecto mix on the True Faith-94 single or not. I personally quite liked it, great house mix albiet it a bit lightweight in the guitar department. If you listen to the "In Session" CD the band took Oakenfold's mix and beefed up the drums and added some electrified guitars... the result? Genius.
New Order won't ever (or I'd be VERY surprised if they do) return to the '87 arrangement of the song. If they somehow managed to reproduce it a'la Blue Monday at Finsbury i.e. sample for sample then it perhaps might work. But considering that the Perfecto version has always had the crowd going nuts and dancing like mad so why would the band want to fuck up that "sure thing" in the setlist by regressing it an arrangement? All the core ingredients of the song is still there: lyrics, bass, guitar, keyboards, the middle-eight... it's just dancier. I don't understand what some fans have against this version, surely it's not that offensive? I personally love that programmed drum beat at the start, the way the hi hats build up, and Steve starts the snare hits... Finsbury is really the definitive version of it, followed by Reading 98 where it was done for the first time.
Perfecto all the way live, but 1987 will always be the daddy on record.

Well perhaps they could come up with a new mix. At least so the song has the same structure as the original, but updated a little? Perfecto Mix just sounds so different and I personally hate that build up bit at the start and towards the end. It's just not True Faith.
- Edit - Actually, after having thought about it. I still would love to hear the original played. You just can't beat it, I dunno about you, but i'm listening to the one from Electronic Ecstasy right now and basically this is 100 times better than Perfecto. It's the atmosphere to the song which you may not have picked up on, it's just not there with perfecto mix.

agreed...i really hate the perfecto mix when compared to the original. i think if i'd heard that version first, i wouldn't much like the song at all. not that i'll get to see them live or anything...
How do you spell shite? P E R F E C T O. Oakenfold is a fuckin chancer who got lucky,all his stuff is basically the same thing at different tempo`s. It was ok when he first came along.He did a good job of 'Unfinished Sympathy' and 'Lemon',but his NewOrder remixes suck! I only bought the 94 release cos i had to. The TWA mix is better,closer to the original but spiced up a bit-thats what it should sound like live.
Im not holding my breath though-we`ll get the remix version,along with Blue Monday.

Neither does playing the original arrangement! The 'Perfecto' arrangement is much better. End of story.

Glad someone else said this. Actually recall Reading '93 and being embarassed by how clumsy the opening of "TF" was. Yeah, the new version's not as immediate, but by the time it builds up steam it's as great as ever....
