Official Minutes of The Melbourne Order, 29.01.05

Location: European Bier Cafe, Exhibition St, Melbourne

Present: depthcharge, Candy The Bear, LadyBear

Apologies: CTB's shirt

Order of business

(1) dC arrives straight from a BBQ with quite a few under his belt. His mood is edgy after copping it for leaving early to "Meet a bloke off the internet for a drink". Enters venue and wanders aimlessly around looking for someone resembling Chewbacca the Wookie. Finally, process of elimination suggests that the quiet couple in the corner were in fact the Bear family.

(2) CTB cracks timeless historical gag along the lines of "DC I presume?". Greetings are exchanged, light banter ensues and first pints are chugged at superb gait. dC is then able to confirm reasonably confidently that CTB was not as once widely suspected, a sheila.

(3) It is then agreed that the Melbourne Order should get underway despite the absence of attendees. Someone observes that all parties forgot to advertise it on NOOL. Apology is accepted from Ian Pillar who is currently chained up in CTB's cellar in a house dress. CTB then stuns dC by offering to buy a round.

(4) New single is dissected and album rumours traded. Conversation then veers off-topic and CTB performs astounding series of social faux pas but nothing that isn't washed down by the next pint, thoughtfully sponsored by dC.

(5) With the suds enlightening proceedings, various NOOLer names are mentioned, drunkenly psycho-analysed, mocked and toasted. Classic posts are re-lived in all their glory. It is widely agreed that "It is odd that someone like ROCKET MICK is being discussed on the other side of the world when we don't know who the hell the bastard truly is". Such glimpses of existentialism are soon extinguished by the volume of more beer.

(6) Topics explored briefly extend outside of NO but are soon reeled in. LadyBear remains contemplative throughout the drunkenly animated music nerd ramblings, perhaps considering whether this was the life she'd hoped for.

(7) CTB shocks attendees in only purchasing further pint only for self as dC has fallen dramatically behind. While alone with dC, LB informs that CTB has 60 Miles an Hour tattooed on his butt cheek(*). dC agrees that it is a leisurely speed and indeed quite worrying but not quite worthy of breaking off her engagement.

(8) Pints are again necked and dC starts prattling about the original Star Wars trilogy and looks ominously like he's settling in for the night. LB shoots CTB a pre-arranged wink and CTB suddenly remembers that the last train to Ringwood departs in 3 minutes. Goodbyes are extended and CTB and LB disappear into the warm Melbourne night. dC sucks back remaining suds, pinballs his way outside, and route ones it to the nearest noodle bar. Meeting officially closed.

Resolutions

(1) dC agrees to urgently address his rate of beer consumption (2) CTB to reclaim Hawaiian shirts and re-grow Wallaby Jack beard

(*) This may or may not be true; alcohol may have tainted the secretary's recollection

Also hope the Chemicals (er, the band) have been worth the travelling, DC!

Saucy, dC, very saucy A good night was had, it must be reported - and apologies for the rather abrupt departure; this in no way was a reflection on the enjoyment, but a concession to Dan, who was slowly slipping into a migraine. As she was providing transportation for the DrunkenBear and his tattoo-emblazoned buttock, I thought I'd do the right thing and let her drive me home. I'm good like that. Hopefully the first session set a precedent for more gatherings of the AustralianOrder Cheers CTB :bear:

Let me know when the next meeting is. I should be down in old Melbourne town again sometime next month.

Classic!

Surprised the beer-to-notes ratio was so accurate in the recollections of the official stenographer/secretary/executive liason. Now, why can't more meetings result in this sort of orderly disorder?

No problemo CTB, understood.

Actually I often have this effect on women.

"Not tonight Depthy, the migraine's back."

So let me get this straight:

  1. No one was sick.

  2. No personal belongings were lost / stolen.

  3. At no point were the police called.

Doesn't sound like much of a night out to me

And where was Delta while all this was going on?

Cheers Al. I really should post a review of The Chems' gig BCD. I noted every track they played so you'll know what you're in for come March.

Well Mr Spaceface, let me tell you that when the bouncer came over to me and asked if I could remove my trucker cap and I replied "Do I have to?", well, things looked like they could ignite at any minute. I took the thing off just to keep the peace... "Disturbing the milieu" indeed.

Anyhow, why do I have to justify anything to you? I don't recall ever seeing your name listed in a UK Order gathering. There's a theory circulating that you're packing a bit of conjoined action under that labcoat, or worse still - you have ginger hair.
