Seeing that New Order have done much recording at Peter Gabriel's studio, has anyone ever heard of NO being interested in doing any of their back catalogue or even any new releases in multichannel? I know Peter Gabriel is a big proponent of m/c, and has released much of his catalogue in m/c (SA-CD), including Up which was made with m/c in mind, and is one of the best m/c releases done to date. NO's music lends itself to endless m/c possibilities, and I was wondering if anyone has ever heard anyone in or related to the band talk about it.
New Order in multi channel?

I could see Stephen getting behind this idea but feel Barney and Hooky would think it was too muso. But hey, if it'll shift more units, you never know!
I think Barney's more of a muso than Steve, at least he always gives that impression in Sound on Sound!
Has to be said the Flaming Lips Last album on 5.1 Multichannel version was mind blowing around my living room. Imagine Round and Round in 5.1....my heads spinning thinking about it. Like you said doubt it'll happen though.
Yoshimi in 5.1 is phenomenal. I have the DVD-A and it is another great example of m/c done right. But my possible favorite is Roxy Music Avalon. I dont listen to it in stereo anymore, its too boring in comparison. Round and Round already uses a simulated surround effect, it would be truly glorious in actual 5.1. But hell, that is probably true for the majority of their songs.
Who knows what the future holds. As far as I know there is no New Order SACD. If there were I'd own one of those SACD players and 3 additional speakers. I already have a Sony 6 channel AV receiver, which replaced my old trust AKAI amp late last year, which blew up during Electronic Ecstacy. As you can see I like my music loud.
Perhaps that Sirens thing will come out as a SACD as well as normal cd, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
as long as its DTS i concur. DD5.1 is not really up to it
get a decent setup and compare the two, DTS is miles in the lead

Don't Kirschy or you'll go blue real fast.
New Order's unlikely to ever appear on SACD because it's a Sony product. Best bet is the Warner-affliated DVD-A.

DVD-A or SACD - whichever, I'll end up buying them. A lot of new players are multi-format these days so no doubt it will happen.
It means re-engineering the sound though and can be done well or very badly. If impetus is required from the members of NO we could be waiting a while.
I would be happy with either SA-CD or DVD-A. I have a surround setup at work, and my brother has a pretty decent m/c setup at home (EMM Labs SACD, 3 ATC SCM50a 2 ATC SCM 10A2 and Linn Sizmik sub, EMM labs pre). Too bad there hasn't been any talk about it being done. I would buy the entire back catalogue in a heartbeat. Just to clear things up, there aren't any NO releases on either SA-CD or DVD-A, I was just hoping someone had possibly heard them talk about it. Too bad. Sucks for us! ![]()
