Now it's been leaked, what's the best way to minimise the damage? I say bring forward to March 14.
Should the release date be brought forward?

They decided to start the promotion 3 months before its release, they knew the risk then.
It's a miracle it hasn't leaked before actually. The copy that leaked is one with the old titles, so it's not from an official promo, but from the "advanced promo" sent to France or magazines such as NME.
Sorry I seem to be a bit naive, but I don't understand the interest for them to start promoting the album 3 months in advance...
Could anyone teach me the basic commercial trick behind this strategy ?
'Cause to me it represents more of a risk than a smashing idea...

Maybe, but right now, everybody is talking about New Order in the UK.
I never had so many news to add since last week.. even in the Get Ready release time!

When I was working in music, the general idea of such an early promo release, interviews, etc was because the record company had little faith in the product and wanted to generate as much interest and anticipation as possible for something that they didn't think would sell well...
As this is New Order and we all know that their new album - no matter how good/bad it is - will certainly chart Top 20 and the single will do the same, purely from the fact that they have a huge fan base, I'm a bit puzzled.
Perhaps there's another reason, but it always used to be 'push the product like hell a month before release'.
Perhaps the label/agents don't have as much faith in the band as we do...? ![]()

So the question that I have is....is this the finished product then or perhaps similar to the GR promo that wasn't finalazed that circulated?

Doesn't it usually take 2-3 months to get magazines to hit the street with the interviews/articles?
My read is that the record company wouldn't bother at all if they thought it was crap...look at Twisted Tenderness and the lack of promotion for Get Ready...this seems much more promoted. Record companies have been consolidating and reducing the number of artists that they are willing to carry...so if they are promoting it at all its a good sign imo.
Actually Warner is pushing it this time, I mean, they are supporting the album a lot more than Get Ready.
This has been told by all the media people around... and probably why New Order are doing the big festivals too... instead of being modest like in 2001.
3 months is far too long, its gone tits up now cos the only people who`ll buy the proper thing is the real fans-if they released it now (its sitting gathering dust at Warner HQ now while the bootleggers clean up) they might hit No.1 instead of only top 10.
NOW they should release the album on some legal music download client. Or give the real fans an opportnity to buy a legal preview version of the album. maybe with no artwork and so on.
