Keyboards?

What brand(s) is New Order using these days? Does anyone know about their keyboards or know where I might inquire further?

The most recent live footage I saw of them featured a Roland XP80...

That said the XP 80 is a few years old and they always seem to latch onto the latest and greatest when it comes to technology. I remember reading that Barney isn't really that into soft synth virtual keyboards so they're def. using actual physical keyboards in the studio.

Suffice to say that with an XP 80 or an XP 30 which is more recent and has a ton of great expansion cards but doesn't have the built in sequencer of the XP 80 you should be able to capture pretty much any New Order sound your heart desires...

While they've obviously experimented with numerous keyboards over the years, if you wanted one keyboard to get the signature sounds Roland seems to be the brand that captures it the best (and is also a brand that they continue to keep coming back to).

that'd be funny if Sumner sat on the stage during a performance and busted out an old casio for Thieves Like Us. Now THAT'S entertainment!

The XP is probably being used as a controller or just for the occasional live riff. It shouldn't be taken as indicative of the contents of their studio, given the synths they've used over the years.

I don't know, I'm not an expert... but it seems that New Order has not been nostalgic and kept using all their old classic analog gear (some would sell body parts for that retro equipment!)

people who want a return of the 80s sound will be disappointed. "I Told U So" at least "sounds" like retro equipment, and a lot of people seem to dislike it

They should use the EMS Synthi A, classic, as used by STEVE HILLAGE

Is there a mouthpiece for Barney to blow down an XP80? :p
