That Cologne gig was a one-off. The U2 tour is a full-blown world tour. If the Order can't be arsed to do more than a handful of dates to their own audience, not even a lorry-load of money is gonna see them trawling round the world playing second fiddle to Bongo's ego.

I, myself, would not call U2 a pile of shite, they have created some beautiful music, in my opinion. But I was not asking if everyone would not go see U2, I was asking if everyone would not go see New Order.
I'm not saying New Order should tour with U2. I think New Order are too big of a band to be an opening act. I'm just asking what everyone else thinks.

Especially on Vertigo... Here you can see the difference between a band trying to catch up with the "80s revival"(U2), and a band shaping its legend by renewing and perfecting its style (N.O.)

Seriously, I doubt that New Order fans would pay through the nose to see them do 50 minutes as the stooges for Bono's ego. Unless they also happened to be U2 fans as well and would get their money's worth. I wouldn't, I know that much, and I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone. A support slot really isn't the same - it's someone else's audience, someone else's rules, someone else's event altogether. While you could argue that about festivals as well, in the case of most festivals the audience is predominantly there for the festival rather than any specific band.
Interesting. Don't think U2 would risk it. New Order used to pull out all the stops when on a bill with bands supposedly their equals. Would be funny to have 30 or 40 order fans down the front just once to hackle that twat Bongo.

I remember being pissed when U2 came the last time around... they did 2 shows, then they came back later for a 3rd show with GARBAGE as the support band.
I was pissed because when I knew Garbage was the support act, the show was sold out... I saw them on the 1st show though, but Garbage is one of my favorite acts.
i think New order would HATE opening on an arena tour for U2! it would be hell in the West
New order is very smart to play the festivals...
- easy guaranteed paycheck
- little work, the festival takes care of about everything
- lots of different fans of different types, who come for different reasons
- laidback atmosphere
- no pressure by being the only headliner/ or by "warming" up for headliner
face it... New Order does not like playing live in the first place

As for this thread, it would be fantastic if New Order opened for U2. How many gigs are they doing in this country alone? Half a dozen? And you'd have the pick of all the major European cities to choose from for a few decent away days too. I'd lap it up. Sign 'em up, Bono!

I'd actually love it, since U2 will play Vienna, it's a three-hour drive from me, busloads of people will travel there, people I know will go, it would finally give me the chance to see New Order live, with or without Bono. I'd stay for U2 as well. They're not that bad.
Radio 1 announced today: Support for the European tour will be Snow Patrol and The Killers for selected dates....

Lol, no way Barney would play live dates unless he had to, I wager. It'd be nice for publicity though, spread the 'Order around to a new generation of people who have barely heard of them - I'm an 18 year old who has liked them for quite a few years, and I've met very little people who also like them my age. Sad really, because they're one of the big British bands.
On the subject of U2, I quite like them sometimes, but overall I'm not a fan. The occassional song (eg Sunday Bloody Sunday) I love but.. balrgh. Bono I'm a bit neutral about. Yes he's a pretentious twat but he does support a lot of causes that I.. well, agree with, I guess.
I saw the video from Live Aid of U2 though.. fucking SHITE.
