Good god - you know what Mr. J. just clicked on your profile and had a look at your pic if that IS you - and you DO bear a frightening resemblance to your new adopted namesake - albeit without the black and white minstrel face make up. Fucking scary or what???

So what "Atrocity Exhibition" are you really referring to now, hmmm?

Atrocity Ehibition - one of my all time fave JD songs - up there with New Dawn Fades - The Eternal and 24 Hours.

Exactly right. Live - I'm thinking right now of the July 13 Factory performance - it sounds like what it is, really out of control and primal. The "Martin Hannett version" on Closer sounds gutted and boring - it actually drags on without much energy or even climax. But at least the studio version sounds like it has potential - I always felt like the song could have been more, and then fortunately I heard it live...

two thumbs up from here...one of my favorites for sure. but they live tracks that i have heard don't seem to have the same edge as the studio recording...

what do you think

I enjoy the closer version. I haven't listened to any of my boots in a while to remember if I have atrocity live, maybe on one. I just remember my first year of college and I was listening to closer in the residence hall. A guy a couple of doors down came in and said, "What are you listening to? That's not music!" I think he went back to his room and put on Ted the Wet Sprocket or some crap like that really loud. :\puke: :\puke:

I love it. One of my favourites, the lyrics are superb.

...i have this "...an evening with Joy Division" bootleg, and this version of "Atrocity Exhibition" is simply amazing !!! i guess it's the same recording as on "Les Bains Douches"...

Has anyone ever considered the title "Atrocity Exhibition" rather bombastic? (If you don't know what 'bombastic' means, look it up!) I understand it was the title of a novel, but nevertheless... And if you've heard the Piccadilly Radio version of AE, that -is- bombastic...

After a little consideration, maybe the Piccadilly Radio AE sounds cartoonish, not bombastic... (U2 is bombastic.)
