i've wondered the same thing. That's the only thing I hear that could possible be the snowball down the back.
I think there was a thread sometime back on this incident...I could be wrong, but I think Rob Gretton ran outside, got some snow and tossed in down Barney's back, resulting in the (first of) Barney's many whoops and yelps and whistles over the years!!
there's a very distinct moment there (not sure at what time though) where you can hear Barney yelp, I think that's when the snowball in question made its way down his back. They talked about it in the Mojo interview a few months back, I think it's basically a true story. If not, it's a great urban myth all the same

Yep you can definately hear a "yelp" and I also read the interview - it happens around the minute mark - can't be arsed timing the fucker though;)
I got the gist that it wasn't on Temptation where Bernard had the snowball shoved down his back - but on Hurt - the b-side - I mean, he's whooping like a maniac towards the end of that song! Surely that's where all the dicking about was happening?
I've just copied this quote from Barney, Mojo Magazine, September 2001: "During the recording it started snowing and Rob and Hooky ran outside and got two massive snowballs. When I was recording the vocals they stuck them down the back of my shirt. If you listen to the 12-inch you can hear them coming into the studio and sticking it down my back."
So the right place to looking for is Temptation 12" version. After listening this track load of times, I still can't find it...

Using the 81/82 EP as my source, i hear what sounds like "ayy" at precisely 51seconds into the song.
Yeah, there's a distinct sort of surprise noise (like a whoop), that doesn't sound planned at all. Going by that, I'd say it's either a snowball or just them surprising Barn.

that was the famous ali g running into the studio incident, not the snowball....
